2013: How much did you spend on your Boxster this year?
I'll go first.
$6,500 for repairs: water pump rotors shocks control arms rear wheel bearings coil packs e-brake cable replaced cracked wheel $300 replaced drain plugs (all of the above were replacing 13 year old original parts) other: $220 OEM Porsche car cover $10 fake chrome lug nuts (Amazon.com) |
~$680 for 4 new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires
~$260-300 (can't remember offhand) for used fuel pump and tank sending units ~$160 for oil change supplies ~$212 for front/rear Textar brake pads w/ wear sensors |
140 front Engine mount
140 (2 oil changes) 60 Spark plugs 25 Serpentine belt 40 New coolant cap and Fuel cap 30 Fuel Pump relay (2 - 1 to replace 1 for spare) Basic stuff - Oct 2013 was 1 year ownership aprox. 13,000 miles driven, now at 65,000 2014 is the big spend year if I keep it 800+ New tires 5-600+ Front suspension (Tie Rods, lower controls, etc) 200 - 4 wheel alignment 5-800+ Water pump, AOS, Thermo, tank(Preventative) 2-300 Fluids Flush/Bleed/Replace 140 (2 oil changes) |
$1,000...not bad for a 13 year old car with 115K miles! Don't get me wrong, I have other items on the agenda for this year but still nothing too major.
O-rings for coolant bleeder valve ($1.50) voltage regulator ($45) used driver seat (a bargain at $100 and looked like new!) Windshield header courtesy light (plastic clips broke when removing to clean connectors) 2 oil/filter changes ($150) fuel filter change ($25) New top with glass rear window, yet to be installed ($450. My plastic window finally torn a bit in late Oct.) Parts for top install ($50) |
Roughly $1300 for a clutch and some tools that I did not have (or could not find. Stupid missing 15mm wrench)
$150ish for an alternator $20 for a tire (thank you road hazard. Had about 20k miles on it) That's it. But I am saving a bunch of stuff that broke at the end of driving season for next year. My top broke at the end of the top down season in Chicago. Haven't even looked to see what needs to be replaced yet, but I think it's minor. $100-200 range. My driver door panel looks to have come loose. Probably another minor expense. Need to replace center motor mount. Got 15k rough miles on the brakes from being a daily driver for 4 months so I'll want to take a look at those. Hopefully it's a cheap year so I can save up for stereo mods and rims and possibly some exterior paint mods. |
The year is not over. I still have time to order stuff.

My wife would say this car costs me too much. It is a good thread because it makes me accountable for the so called luxuries. So here goes.
Off course paid too much in the first place for my 2001 Base box 2.5 years ago and it had 30k miles. Now has 40k miles. Will not disclose purchase price coz we pay more up here for P cars. Got $3k off the asking price. All work except oil changes, filters done by my indy shop: coolant flush and Porsche antifreeze $300 cv refurbishing $1000 spare used rims and blizzaks $400 new set of a/s tires $1200 install IMS Guardian $1000 idler arm pulley, accessory belt $1000 just ordered two new snow tires $600 oil filters, air filters etc about $150 Total $5650 yikes... Still worth the price of admission. :) |

At least I hope that is the case  |

You have a couple of choices (as I see it). 1. Cheapest is to replace the top yourself. Less than $400 for a plastic window and less than $500 should get you glass. 2. By a used to and frame from a member, yard or auction site. Install is a breeze....figure an hour or two (max) to remove your old top and frame and install your new one. Prices range from $300 to $600 for plastic and $700-$1500 for glass. 3. Have a pro do the work for you. ~1-1.2K for plastic and a few hundred more for glass. |
Financial - Around $1700 (still adding up my end of year report)
Pain and suffering - 7 twelve packs, 3 lost weekend days, fear of the future, and a perpetual engine light |
Front bumper, paint, installation, lights: $3000
Upgrading to S brakes: $500 Repairs: $3000 Over $10,000 and counting for engine swap :p Not a hint of regret. |
