I make it a point not to keep track. That maintains plausible deniability.

Tucker2 12-19-2013 07:16 PM

Bought the BS in July. I'm in between $800-$1000 if you count trips to Harbor Freight for little things like floor jack and stands.

Not bad.

But here's the kicker......how many miles have I driven the car since July?

Wait for it....
Wait for it...............

250. Two hundred and fifty miles.

That's like $8 per mile including (small) car loan payment.

I am an idiot. But I do love the damn car. I think I enjoy wrenching on her as much as the driving.

Ckrikos 12-19-2013 08:29 PM

6k for complete overhaul including tires. Funny thing Is I can't get a porsche stealer to offer more than $7k for the car, yet they all say they can't budge and only have 2k of profit in a used 996 turbo. I have gotten offers for 10 from wholesalers.

mikesz 12-20-2013 04:24 AM

Plausible deniability, GREAT IDEA. Problem is I enjoy working on the car as much as driving it. I especially like it when I tell people I am the cars mechanic. Especially the dealer!

Did the IMSB retro fit, along with a new RMS, an oil change and full alignment and corner balancing. About $2300.

Bmod986 12-20-2013 06:30 PM

michelin pilot sport A/S $800
front lower control arms $80 for both. Now their both shot hahaha.
Front drop links, $55
front driver wheel knuckle $90 got it from a scrap yard.
why even mention oil but any way its comes out to be $100 penzoil 5-40 plus the oil filter. changed it twice.
8 spark plugs $6 each. I needed two more because two of the one I put in got all oiled up.
3 coil packs $39 each
magnetic drain plug ? Don't remember.
k&n air filter $45

Still have to do
Full suspension
all the mounts
3 more coils
alignement.

so ya list will get bigger. But I have to finish college first (Done in May 2014) and then my money can be properly poured onto my girl.

Porsche9 12-20-2013 06:41 PM

Just dropped the Box off today to have the following done:

IMS
RMS
Water pump
UDP and serpentine belt
Oil and filter change
Brake fluid change
Trans fluid change
Clutch (does not need it but at 44,000 miles plus while you are in there)

All in $2,500 including pick/drop off in the shop's Cayenne. Indie labor rate of $80/hour makes it feel like the total cost is reasonable (at least for a Porsche).

Hey Nine8Six, I have a business proposition based on the prices for Porsches you mentioned. Let's import clean Porsches from the US into Shanghai. I guessing there are some big hurdles that I'm not aware.

Nine8Six 12-20-2013 07:58 PM

It is not allowed to import any (second-hand) vehicles into China since 2008. You had a great idea but a few years too late mate :/

You are still allowed to import NEW vehicle however the import tax is about the same as of the price of the vehicle itself.

Just to put things into proportion.... the 'base' 2013 997 is USD227,000 at the dealer here mate. Just visited a month ago.

It's a class on its own here brotha ;)

BruceH 12-20-2013 07:58 PM

All cosmetic for me except for a DIY oil change:

New top with glass - $1160 installed
Used 18" BBS Sport Classic II's - $650 (I sold my OEM's for $450) Net cost $200
20 mm Spacers - $160
New set of Michelin's - $1100
Used Clear Halogen Headlights - $600 (sold my ambers for $450) Net cost $150
Oil and filter - $90
Oil Analysis - $25
Mini iPad for dash - $400
Leather for center console and door armrests - $60
Mesh guards - $20

The exhaust note, Priceless:D

What you should do is come with me down to Dongguan (Guangdong province) where they manufacture all the bodykits. You can get GT2/3 and all the other FB aftermarket you see on eBay for about 100~200 bux straight out of the mold ;) They are all made in China although many claims they are a made in USA (which is BS!).

So there's a business for ya mate. I believe some pays thousand of dosh for those things ;)

Figured the importing of cars was a dead idea. Too much $$$ in it for others to have not already had that idea. I went looking for a bodykit after I saw the price you paid and off I did not see anything close. I love the look of your especially since it has the right color. Got to sell a lot bodykits to make any real money.
