2013: How much did you spend on your Boxster this year?

I'll go first.

$6,500 for repairs:
water pump
rotors
shocks
control arms
rear wheel bearings
coil packs
e-brake cable
replaced cracked wheel $300
replaced drain plugs
(all of the above were replacing 13 year old original parts)

other:
$220 OEM Porsche car cover
$10 fake chrome lug nuts (Amazon.com)

Deserion 12-19-2013 07:23 AM

~$680 for 4 new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires
~$260-300 (can't remember offhand) for used fuel pump and tank sending units
~$160 for oil change supplies
~$212 for front/rear Textar brake pads w/ wear sensors

kk2002s 12-19-2013 07:47 AM

140 front Engine mount
140 (2 oil changes)
60 Spark plugs
25 Serpentine belt
40 New coolant cap and Fuel cap
30 Fuel Pump relay (2 - 1 to replace 1 for spare)

Basic stuff - Oct 2013 was 1 year ownership aprox. 13,000 miles driven, now at 65,000

2014 is the big spend year if I keep it
800+ New tires
5-600+ Front suspension (Tie Rods, lower controls, etc)
200 - 4 wheel alignment
5-800+ Water pump, AOS, Thermo, tank(Preventative)
2-300 Fluids Flush/Bleed/Replace
140 (2 oil changes)

dghii 12-19-2013 08:01 AM

$1,000...not bad for a 13 year old car with 115K miles! Don't get me wrong, I have other items on the agenda for this year but still nothing too major.

O-rings for coolant bleeder valve ($1.50)
voltage regulator ($45)
used driver seat (a bargain at $100 and looked like new!)
Windshield header courtesy light (plastic clips broke when removing to clean connectors)
2 oil/filter changes ($150)
fuel filter change ($25)
New top with glass rear window, yet to be installed ($450. My plastic window finally torn a bit in late Oct.)
Parts for top install ($50)

CoBeerToad 12-19-2013 08:10 AM

Roughly $1300 for a clutch and some tools that I did not have (or could not find. Stupid missing 15mm wrench)

$150ish for an alternator

$20 for a tire (thank you road hazard. Had about 20k miles on it)

That's it. But I am saving a bunch of stuff that broke at the end of driving season for next year.

My top broke at the end of the top down season in Chicago. Haven't even looked to see what needs to be replaced yet, but I think it's minor. $100-200 range.

My driver door panel looks to have come loose. Probably another minor expense.

Need to replace center motor mount.

Got 15k rough miles on the brakes from being a daily driver for 4 months so I'll want to take a look at those.

Hopefully it's a cheap year so I can save up for stereo mods and rims and possibly some exterior paint mods.

Timco 12-19-2013 08:12 AM

The year is not over. I still have time to order stuff.

Place holder.

I may need one of these too. Getting holes where the plastic window folds. Didn't know I could find them for $450 though. But I'm way too scared to attempt to replace my top on my own though. Every instruction I have seen makes it look like it is a real pain.

TeamOxford 12-19-2013 08:43 AM

mikesz 12-19-2013 10:13 AM

I am trying not to dwell on it, besides 2013 is not over yet. Will let you know in a couple of weeks. Please don't tell my wife!

epapp 12-19-2013 10:20 AM

$60 on changing the oil
$50 new plug tube orings (from the dealership, :sigh:)
$400 new rear tires because a homeless person slashed one of mine

$priceless: interior paint, bluetooth module for radio, put tablet in the dashboard, white gauge faces, short shifter, 42 gallons of meguiars/mothers/griots polish and wax

RaisedOnPorsches 12-19-2013 11:19 AM

I'm with Mikesz on this one. I'm affraid to look. During next week while on my holiday time off, I'm replacing my motor mount and all break pads (possibly rear rotors). My annual repair bill is still on the rise. :barf:

Oh yeah, and my headlight low-beam bulb just burnt out last night...

Coffinhunter 12-19-2013 11:28 AM

$26.00 for Convertible Tension Cables
$75.00 to re-glue part of the top to the frame
$85.00 for oil change (although that one is coming up pretty soon.....)

Lord knows how much in gas!!!!!!!!!

Topless 12-19-2013 12:00 PM

2 sets of comp tires: $1600
2 oil change and complete inspection, $400
1 corner balance and alignment $400
1 set front racing pads and rotors $500

$3100

trimer 12-19-2013 12:12 PM

$678,389.32.

recycledsixtie 12-19-2013 12:28 PM

My wife would say this car costs me too much. It is a good thread because it makes me accountable for the so called luxuries. So here goes.

Off course paid too much in the first place for my 2001 Base box 2.5 years ago and it had 30k miles. Now has 40k miles. Will not disclose purchase price coz we pay more up here for P cars. Got $3k off the asking price.

All work except oil changes, filters done by my indy shop:

coolant flush and Porsche antifreeze $300
cv refurbishing $1000
spare used rims and blizzaks $400
new set of a/s tires $1200
install IMS Guardian $1000
idler arm pulley, accessory belt $1000
just ordered two new snow tires $600
oil filters, air filters etc about $150

Total $5650 yikes...

Still worth the price of admission. :)

It may be a pain to replace the top but there are such great instructions that I think it is very doable. I replaced the top on my wifes 350Z last month...first time I'd tried that job. I took my time and followed instructions and never really got stuck. The top is nice and tight (thankfully) and doesn't leak!

You have a couple of choices (as I see it).
1. Cheapest is to replace the top yourself. Less than $400 for a plastic window and less than $500 should get you glass.

2. By a used to and frame from a member, yard or auction site. Install is a breeze....figure an hour or two (max) to remove your old top and frame and install your new one. Prices range from $300 to $600 for plastic and $700-$1500 for glass.

3. Have a pro do the work for you. ~1-1.2K for plastic and a few hundred more for glass.

runjmc2 12-19-2013 12:57 PM

Financial - Around $1700 (still adding up my end of year report)
Pain and suffering - 7 twelve packs, 3 lost weekend days, fear of the future, and a perpetual engine light

Crono0001 12-19-2013 01:04 PM

Front bumper, paint, installation, lights: $3000
Upgrading to S brakes: $500
Repairs: $3000
Over $10,000 and counting for engine swap :p

Not a hint of regret.

cardiffgiant 12-19-2013 01:50 PM

Jamesp 12-19-2013 03:03 PM

I make it a point not to keep track. That maintains plausible deniability.

Tucker2 12-19-2013 07:16 PM

Bought the BS in July. I'm in between $800-$1000 if you count trips to Harbor Freight for little things like floor jack and stands.

Not bad.

But here's the kicker......how many miles have I driven the car since July?

Wait for it....
Wait for it...............

250. Two hundred and fifty miles.

That's like $8 per mile including (small) car loan payment.

I am an idiot. But I do love the damn car. I think I enjoy wrenching on her as much as the driving.

Ckrikos 12-19-2013 08:29 PM

6k for complete overhaul including tires. Funny thing Is I can't get a porsche stealer to offer more than $7k for the car, yet they all say they can't budge and only have 2k of profit in a used 996 turbo. I have gotten offers for 10 from wholesalers.

mikesz 12-20-2013 04:24 AM

Plausible deniability, GREAT IDEA. Problem is I enjoy working on the car as much as driving it. I especially like it when I tell people I am the cars mechanic. Especially the dealer!

Nine8Six 12-20-2013 10:41 AM

Total: +/- US$17,000

Resale value here in Shanghai, China: CNY280,000 current with few standing offers.
(In USD the equivalent is $46,666.00)

That's how it's done ;)

Did the IMSB retro fit, along with a new RMS, an oil change and full alignment and corner balancing. About $2300.

Bmod986 12-20-2013 06:30 PM

michelin pilot sport A/S $800
front lower control arms $80 for both. Now their both shot hahaha.
Front drop links, $55
front driver wheel knuckle $90 got it from a scrap yard.
why even mention oil but any way its comes out to be $100 penzoil 5-40 plus the oil filter. changed it twice.
8 spark plugs $6 each. I needed two more because two of the one I put in got all oiled up.
3 coil packs $39 each
magnetic drain plug ? Don't remember.
k&n air filter $45

Still have to do
Full suspension
all the mounts
3 more coils
alignement.

so ya list will get bigger. But I have to finish college first (Done in May 2014) and then my money can be properly poured onto my girl.

Porsche9 12-20-2013 06:41 PM

Just dropped the Box off today to have the following done:

IMS
RMS
Water pump
UDP and serpentine belt
Oil and filter change
Brake fluid change
Trans fluid change
Clutch (does not need it but at 44,000 miles plus while you are in there)

All in $2,500 including pick/drop off in the shop's Cayenne. Indie labor rate of $80/hour makes it feel like the total cost is reasonable (at least for a Porsche).

Hey Nine8Six, I have a business proposition based on the prices for Porsches you mentioned. Let's import clean Porsches from the US into Shanghai. I guessing there are some big hurdles that I'm not aware.

Nine8Six 12-20-2013 07:58 PM

It is not allowed to import any (second-hand) vehicles into China since 2008. You had a great idea but a few years too late mate :/

You are still allowed to import NEW vehicle however the import tax is about the same as of the price of the vehicle itself.

Just to put things into proportion.... the 'base' 2013 997 is USD227,000 at the dealer here mate. Just visited a month ago.

It's a class on its own here brotha ;)

BruceH 12-20-2013 07:58 PM

All cosmetic for me except for a DIY oil change:

New top with glass - $1160 installed
Used 18" BBS Sport Classic II's - $650 (I sold my OEM's for $450) Net cost $200
20 mm Spacers - $160
New set of Michelin's - $1100
Used Clear Halogen Headlights - $600 (sold my ambers for $450) Net cost $150
Oil and filter - $90
Oil Analysis - $25
Mini iPad for dash - $400
Leather for center console and door armrests - $60
Mesh guards - $20

The exhaust note, Priceless:D

What you should do is come with me down to Dongguan (Guangdong province) where they manufacture all the bodykits. You can get GT2/3 and all the other FB aftermarket you see on eBay for about 100~200 bux straight out of the mold ;) They are all made in China although many claims they are a made in USA (which is BS!).

So there's a business for ya mate. I believe some pays thousand of dosh for those things ;)

Figured the importing of cars was a dead idea. Too much $$$ in it for others to have not already had that idea. I went looking for a bodykit after I saw the price you paid and off I did not see anything close. I love the look of your especially since it has the right color. Got to sell a lot bodykits to make any real money.
