Finally bought a boxster

Happy new owner of an 01 boxster s. Also my first MT car. Love the comfort and speed. Any tips on how to drive it. Especially 1st 2nd gear change, can't seem to not have it jerk most times.

Shift at about 4k, it loves revs.

Roger. Also is it possible to change the top from plastic to glass and a different color. The rear window is fogged ( which doesn't bother me too much with the top down)

Does shift smother above 4k. Make sure its warmed up though.

Went for a drive and does shift better after 4k, but is revving that high in normal traffic good for the engine and my fuel economy

Take a look at Auto Tops Direct (ATD) same as GAHH. I replaced my top last spring, highly recommended.

The S is about a 1000 rpm drop from 1st to 2nd. For my smooth shifts that means I better get 2nd engaged by then to get smooth RPM matching.
I agree that 3800 - 4000 produces a smooth transition, just do it regularly after the car has warmed, oil temp up.
I do find trying to to do a 1-2 shift 5-6k can also be a bit jerky.
Spirited shift at 5k, puts you at 4k in 2nd then it's off to the races through the rest of the gears until you are surprised at how fast triple digits display

I'm quickly finding watching my speed hard to manage. Too easy to start speeding before reaching 4th

High revs!!! 1-2 gear, about 4k while rev matching to about 2.8k, 4.5k+ through the other gears with revs 3k+ to match before engaging clutch.

I just have a Box base 2.7l and in third gear can easily reach 100 mph. I don't get into 4th gear in the city. I really don't need an S. I don't get into the high rev range till I am out in the country......can't wait for spring.

I used to have a lead foot until I started autocrossing/EVO school,etc.

Once I realized how much 'margin of error' room you need to recover from a miscalculation, and the fact that texting/shaving/lip glossing motorists give you absolutely none, I limited my spirited drives to times when there's little traffic on the road.

As for gunning the minute you get in, the best practice is to watch how long it takes your temp gauge to point straight up and then double that amount of time for the engine oil to come up to non-self-destructing temperature. So if it takes 10-15 minutes from when you drive off, keep the revs below 3K. Remember the best drivers are those who are the least punishing to their highly engineered equipment. This car is a scalpel not a hammer. If you treat like a hammer, get ready for some large repair bills. Way bigger than what you'll see with any domestic.
