Let me tell you a story.

My local specialist changed oil for me for $120 and I went on the track few weeks after, after a few laps smoke started to come out from the exhaust and I thought I blew my motor.

I had the car towed back to the pit and lucky there was a Porsche mechanic on the spot, after checking the dip stick he claimed whoever did my oil change over-filled it and it spilled over causing huge amount of smoke.

Truth is most shops just get some new kid to do easy stuff like oil change, they use the knowledgeable mechanics for bigger jobs. I never took my Porsche to a shop to get an oil change since.

I'm lucky in that I do have access to a lift at our local Naval base. Costs $5/hr for use, including a full arsenal of tools.

Castrol Syntec 10W40 - I'll pick this oil up when it is on special, usually at Advance Auto for $4 to $5/quart.

Filter and washer - I'll buy online from one of the vendors for ~$10.

All in with the bay rental I'm at about $60.

I average 4-5 oil changes per year (lots of track days) so I DIY the oil change for about $65 like several others. Easy, breezy.

That is one very important reason that I do my own. I take my time, drain it completely, fill it close to full and then top up a little at a time until it is the correct level and I do it for less than $60. After all, this isn't brain surgery and should be quite easy to do, but I have seen several instances where it was incorrectly done. Do it yourself and you know it is right. I too do at least 6 oil changes per year and the $600 plus that I save on them buys upgrades, etc.

I recently purchased a 2002 Boxster s. I usually do the oil changes myself. The oil change instructions I read mentions the full-flow spin-on oil filter adapter conversion as an option for making the oil change easier and provide better oil flow to the engine.
Has anyone done the full-flow spin-on oil filter adapter conversion?
Is it recommended?

My Boxster came equipped with the LNE spin-on oil filter adapter. After dealing with cartridge filters in the past, I can say that the spin on filter arrangement is much easier to deal with. One also has a choice of using three filters that are readily available.

Does it provide better oil flow? Hell if I know............

I just changed mine for the first time Saturday. As easy as any car... I used a Mann filter from Advance Auto, it was in a Purolator box...
