I think that you will find that 'colour' was originally spelt this way, the original occupants of the US had a completely different word for when they were discussing things in their wigwams.
The immigrants who occupy the country now didn't know how to spell and forgot to take a dictionary hence 'color' and a heap more incorrectly spelt words.

So with some of the terminology differences, Amreican cars have a trunk and a hood, while British cars have a boot and a bonnet. Does the Boxster "frunk" in America translate to a "froot" in England?
