Just saw the New Cayman at the local dealer

Intersting car. This one was Artic Silver with Black Interior and lots of goodies.

MSPR of over $71K.

Can't say it is beautiful but it IS interesting.

Pretty small inside (feeling of the coupe I think) and I have to say, I am stuck on the price.

This is $6K more than a Z06 Corvette and actually the price of a base 911 coupe.

Anyway, I do like it better "in the flesh" but at the end of the day, I am ragtop guy!

PS- I do think they will sell a lot of these in year 1 but not sure how subsequent years will do. Also, I really don't see many NEW Porsche buyers for the Cayman, but more likely to cannibalize other models.

Just my opinion.

Wow, 71k is quite a number! My friend bought an 03 911 C4s this year for less than 70k. I think I would have to do the same given the seventy thousand dollar question. The price could be reflective of the "New" Porsche. I am sure the price will level off as time goes on. Personally, I almost bought a 911 Cab before my Boxster S purchase, but I liked alot more of the Boxster S feel as well as the slightly lower price. Just my 2 cents... a 911 is still a 911.. great in so many ways.

For my 71K, I like my personal setup... a 2001 Boxster S and a 2003 GMC Envoy SUV.
One for winter and one for summer!

Thanks for the input!

Kindly,
Joe

I wish I'm in the States. Really. It will most likely go for 90K with the same setup here due to inflated price that the dealership offers. And no, we can't negotiate the MSRP with dealership here either as all price is "fixed".

That is too bad. It is always difficult when circumstance drive up the price when no good reason exists.

Perhaps you can move to the US? We do deep discounts here!

A few options add up quick in Porsche land. A loaded Cayman is easily in 911 territory. PCCB's are nearly 8-10 grand extra which would make this Cayman a $80k car. A question going through the minds of potential buyers might be "should I go with a stripper 911 or go for a nicely optioned Cayman." Tough decision.

A loaded cayman in 911 territory?!

AS IT SHOULD BE!!

Look don't get me wrong the 911 is fine car and from the side and back its quiet beautiful but the CaymanS will eat a standard Carrera alive. The CaymanS is a sportscar in the purest sense. Why wouldn't it be similar in price?

This notion that the 911 is the be all and end all of the Porsche brand is a bit outdated. I'll take the CaymanS every time! An Excellence contributor once proclaimed that "the BoxsterS and CarreraGT are the two best handling cars Porsche has on offer". Let's get that guy in more rigid Boxster with MORE power and see what he has to say now.

A mid engine mounted 3.4 on a world class chasis? No contest. No pendulus cornering or nervous-front-end-at-100+mph-in-a-cross-wind handlin for me thank you.

I hope they just redo all the front end styling on these new cars. I still haven't warmed up to the Beetle meets RX8 look.

I think the Cayman will take 911 buyers away. I don't think it will take Boxster buyers away because it does not offer the convertible option.

I prefer it to the "fried-egg meets Arctic Silver frying pan look".

I think it only looks like a fried egg if you have the old amber headlights which to me would presumably be the yolk. The Clear Litronics seem more amoeba like, unless they have yolks too. For the record I like the 911 Turbo headlights above all previous P-car headlight styles.

^ I have to agree with you there. The 02-04 Carrera style headlights look real nice.
