Car care Products

I was wondering what if any clay do you use during your pre-waxing of your car? I have never used clay and am a bit skeptical,as seeing my dad has won several car shows without ever using clay. Does the clay really make that much of a difference? I would be interested in seeing what specific products you guys use on your boxsters, especially to clean the convertible. Any links to site that have good car car products would be helpful.

Here is a link to the Autopia users' reviews of all the clay products.

I've used Clay Magic for a while. It's easy to use and provides great results. I'd confidently recommend it.

Hey,

Clay really does work, but you must be careful how you use it. Be sure to constantly keep spraying the area with copius amounts of soapy water from a Spray Bottle as a lubricant.

So far as other Car Care Products, well this is akin to the Boxers vs Briefs debate - it's totally a matter of personal preference.

Personally, I use Zaino Bros. and have exclusively for 10+ years. My Black Lotus Esprit won every Show it's ever been in, including the Concours D'Elegance at a National Lotus Convention, so Zaino's been working for me. Check it out at :http://www.zainostore.com/ , or: http://www.nsxsc.com/nsexcitement/waxtest.html. Then make up your own mind.

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Perfectlap, your car looks great. Are all your products applied by hand? Or do you use the Porter Cable?

I used the PC with my Black Miata, a daily driver that I felt like I was ALWAYS cleaning, very frequently
With the Porsche I only use the PC to remove swirls (3M fine cut and orange pad).
I should use the PC more often because its so much quicker.

Those 30 layers were done by hand. I use a foam applicator pad to apply Klasse All in One (you waste allot of product if use MF or Terry pads) and a slighly damp MF pad to apply the Klasse SG. The acrylic spritz is a must have if you are only applying by hand, streaking is common with SG becaue its so concentrated. A dime size drop for each panel. Some say dime size for the whole car but that's weird.

here's a store I order my interior 1Z products fromhttp://store.pakshak.com/index.html

This was 10 layers of Klasse SG (after claying and 3M fine cut, 3M swirl remover)
and a HEAVY pouring of S100 Carnauba. I think it got dirty 15 minutes later.

The way I usually tell if my car needs claying is by dragging my knuckles across the surface of the paint lightly. If I feel any grit that means there is dirt in the paint and/or wax, and clay is one way to get it out.
Swirl remover or fine cut cleaner will do it too, but the clay seems to be less work.

Sonus makes a new fine clay (green) that's good for claying addicts like me.
It won't strip the sealant so that you can clay regularly. So now I never wax unless I've clayed, and I also clay after washing and before using the Acrylic spritz. Up here in New Jersey there are tonnes of contaminants that slip past the "feel" test. Living next to an airport requires more work.
