Replaced the rear deck speakers
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1617734623.jpg
Old original speakers were worn out and decaying. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1617734663.jpg Replacement speakers. I went with the FaitalPRO 3" full-range woofers from Parts Express. They fit perfectly in the factory plastic except for 1 speaker tab needing to be removed on the outermost speaker on each side. They sound way better (how could they not) than the factory ones. I did the dash speaker replacement years ago. |

sunny day drive
I drove the Boxster to work today and put the top down (the first time this year) for my drive home. Took the curvy route along the river, a great way to de-stress after a hard day. The car seemed to be especially happy today, or maybe that was just me...
cheers - djhttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/4211617842222.jpg |

The 8 ohms work very well as they do not take as much to drive from the factory stereo. They sell the exact same speakers at 4 ohm load also if you prefer to try. |
Cleaned Radiators/Replaced Ballast Resistors
Finally cleaned out radiators and replaced 2 faulty ballast resistors while my bumper is being repainted. What a mess!
And now there is low speed fan!!! https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/q227/shacky1973/IMG_0449.MOV?width=285&height=175&crop=fillhttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1618016309.jpg |
Replaced the motor mount with a Power Flex yellow insert and replaced the spark plugs. Had tubes but the existing ones looked fine. Long day including taking the mount to a local machine shop to press the old insert out. Thankfully the Power Flex bushing is easy to press in. The center of the old insert fell out when I took out the mount lol!
Took the car for a quick drive before weather moved in. The car felt so much better. some have said that there is a huge increase in vibration with the Power Flex. I did not experience that throughout the RPM's. It was wonderful. Nice, tight shifts, no lurching when accelerating, no thuds over bumps. With the new plugs, the car fires up much quicker. Took me much longer than I anticipated, but well worth it in the end! |
Cleaned the seats and applied Zaino "Leather in a Bottle" conditioner and protectant. Stuff helps the leather smell so good.
Also applied a LOAD of touch up paint to the hood, driver's door, rear deck, and both front quarter panels. The hood was an absolute mess. At least 100 spots that needed to be addressed. Waited 3 hours and then cleaned up with Langka blob eliminator. Followed up with a light hand polish to remove the Langka residue. Looks at least 80-90% better. The deeper scratches and chips will need another round or two. The paint match from Automotivetouchup.com looks to be perfect. It's a very labor intensive and, for me, painful process. I've had two neck fusion surgeries and have severe arthritis and disc issues up and down my spine. So any working with my hands and arms is painful. But the end result is so worth it. Hopefully I'll have recovered by next weekend so I can do round 2 on the touch up, Langka, polish process. If I'm really lucky, it will only take 2 times to fill everything in. When it's not pouring rain hopefully I can get some pics. Should have taken some before pics, will have to see if I can find any. When I do the rest of the car I'll try to take some before and after picks. |

Put in my first $1000 parts order to rebuild an engine. I intend to try rebuilding one as a retirement challenge. Fortunately, I have a perfect '99 so no frustration at not being able to drive!

Found a nice set of OEM Headlights from local FB Marketplace to replace mine that have the infamous brown burn marks on the inner lense.
Not to decide if I keep the old ones for a projector bulb conversion or if I decide to sell them for someone else so they can do the swap. Hmmmm. |
Dragged my sorry sleepy grumpy @$$ out of bed at stupid o'Clock. Car was grumpy also but after 25 mins on the motorway we pulled off and started the climb.
Cold air, dry roads, tight corners, snicking between 2nd & 3rd, a touch of brake and back to 2nd, tyres load and bite, lovely turn in, feed the power back in, grab 3rd and rinse and repeat. The reward was worth the lack of sleep. I imagine I hear the car calling for more, alas it's a better car than I am a driver and we are on public roads so prudence prevailed. Just one of those mornings when everything flowed and was good in the world. Spectacular sunrise and amazing light. 210kms clocked up and home before the house even knew I was gone. The 986 may not be the hero car when compared to others but it does deliver an exceptional driving experience. It's morning's like this that confirm the Boxster is probably the best bang for you buck sports car out there.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...183ceabb57.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5abc19318b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...03f0ad0f5f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3b1d0921a6.jpg |

Wow, beautiful pics, thanks for sharing !
I replaced my 4 tires today and FINALLY solved the vibration issue above 110 km/h. I went from Cooper (came with the car) to Michelin Sport AS4. The Cooper's had lots of thread left (7/32) but were probably warped or damaged. I had the wheels balanced multiple times, alignment done, front wheel repaired, suspension checked. No luck. A local shop here said to replaced the flywheel, it must be out of balance.....yeah sure. A small $2000 repair, which I fortunately did not do. It was the tires. Anyway my wife is glad that I'll stop complaining about the vibration, which she thought was in my head. Oh well, at least she lets me play with my toy. |
Thanks all. Here's a slightly more arty pic as my photography talent is much worse than my driving ability.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...42dbdac71c.jpg

Just a $250/300 Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro. It has a good camera but nothing special. Think I just got lucky.
I have an old Cannon DSLR but never use it, thought about buying some of the newer more compact digital ones but I probably wouldn't use them either so would be a waste. I love a good pic but very rarely take anything of note. As the saying goes the best camera is the one you have with you. That shot is just a zoomed in crop of this one. There you go now - all my skills laid bare and shown up as the photography fraud I am. I was trying not to slip down into the icy steam behind me as I was taking it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7b81c9a42a.jpg |

So I got 4 of the wee rear speakers. Turns out they are a bit smaller than the OEM ones. So I made a pair of boxes. I do prefer the sound of an enclosed speaker anyway, and my make shift way of mounting the oem ones was bothering me.
The sound these things produce is MUCH better than the OEM speakers I had. IDK if its the box or just that they are new, but its much crisper and cleaner sound quality. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1619046076.jpg |
Just for the pleasure of it
Yardwork, check. Honey do list, check. Top down trip up the mountain, check. 92 in the valley, 70 at the ski-lift.

Got it out of the shop for the first time this year!! Top down, and took wife to dinner.

Replaced my front fender! I had an unfortunate encounter with a deer over a year ago now and finally found a replacement locally in the correct color. Removal and installation was a fairly easy job overall. The adjustable headlight tray mounts were a bit tricky at first. Haven't checked headlight alignment yet, just set them to what they were before. Should be close enough I think.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...13c0471143.jpg

A couple of weeks ago I installed my GT3 seats and harness bar and harnesses for the first time. The harness bar required the removal of the rear shelf compartment over the engine cover. When I went for a drive I thought the exhaust sounded a little different, and I chalked it up to less sound insulation over the engine cover due to the lack of the rear shelf unit. Today I went out for a top down drive, and it sounded more like an exhaust leak. When I got home I took a peak underneath, and saw a crack in the weld after the small muffler in my Circuit Werks mid pipe on the passenger side. My shop thinks it can be rewelded, I'll take it in this week, since I have an autocross next Saturday.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1619998872.jpg

Not a "What I did" but a "What I'm going to do" today...
Driving my wife into work this morning, 40 miles down the hill to Palm Desert... 40 miles home to meet the tow truck where the car... which has been sitting for 6 months... will then be towed to Riverside for the tranny repair. I'll be right behind the tow truck. After meeting with the shop owner it's a drive home to kick things around until I return to Palm Desert to pick up the wife at 5. A 300 mile day. |

I removed my cheese grater clutch and brake pedals, for the comfy stock rubber. This make barefoot driving more comfy. |
I picked up my car from the shop today. They welded the midpipe back together, added a couple of gussets for strength and also welded some broken mounting tabs. So I'm good to go for Saturday's autocross!

What did you do with/to your Boxster today?
Installed new Litronics headlights today. With 700 lm LEDs in the fog lights to retain my DRL hack. I thought my refurbed headlights looked great until I unboxed the new units.
In addition to the appearance, the wiring insulation was history on my original units and the self leveling was noisy on startup. All better now ;-) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7945c02131.jpg Also, recently installed my factory Speedster humps just back from the paint shop. I love them. Weather permitting won’t see the top until the end of the season. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1be0a68773.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...45c04a6aa6.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
LOVELY!
