I took delivery of my 2006 base today! Grinning like a possum. But already have a few items to resolve.

Well, not exactly the trip home that I wanted... Unfortunately, I chose a poor day to drive the car home from KC to Denver. It was torrential rain, and had about 30 miles left of fuel, so I turned off the cruise control and there was a substantial thump from the motor. I immediately thought "OMG! IMS bearing!" but then realized that it was just a massive misfire condition. CEL came on and I limped to gas up. The CEL went away after fueling and I went on my way, thinking that Boxsters didn't like running on fumes. About 30 miles later, same thing. So, I pulled off I-70 and sat there. I turned the ignition back on and the check oil level thing took about 10 minutes (?). CEL came right back. Western Kansas isn't a great place to get stuck, so I saw that I was close to an O'Reilly's (better than nothing) and limped off with the hazards flashing. The nice gal pulled the code (P0306 - Engine misfire). Rather than get stuck in Burlington, I chose to drive the rest of the way (also a blizzard approaching). Amazingly, the misfire seems to have gone away, but the CEL is still on.

Any ideas? Logic says something got very, very wet, and then dried off.

Took the front bumper cover off, pulled the scoops (all 3) and cleaned the radiators.

Broke one of the plastic wheel well rivets and discovered that the Styrofoam "bumper cover protector" was gone (only one of the retaining tabs remained).

Found a bunch of stuff in there between the radiators and the evaporators - leaves, cigarette butts, plastic wrappers, etc. but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Bald Eagle 04-17-2016 04:52 AM

Out of hibernation three weeks ago. The weather has been grey, rainy, and snow showers which has not been conducive to the first, nice long top-down drive until Friday. Drove about 80 beautiful top-down miles grinning all the time and looking forward to many more days like it until the sad day it goes back to hibernate.

A bad coil pack comes to mind first

That's certainly my hope! Thanks for the feedback.

Fingers crossed. And you really shouldn't have to worry about the IMS on 06 and up. So far, extremely few issues on that bigger, sturdier bearing. Hopefully that continues as the kilometres roll.

Yes, that is another hope after a lot of research and one of the reasons I went with an 06. I took note of the serial number of the motor, M96/2561605638, and verified the build date of January 2006.

I still got a warranty just in case. :)

Brakes and speakers

Gave the front new rotors, pads and sensors and installed the alpine speakers up front. Okay it wasn't today it was a few days ago and it took me a couple of days to get it done. :D For some reason the photo rotates when I upload it.

Nice. How do the alpines sound up front and which model did you go with? I have a pair of alpines I am going to replace the dash speakers with and also got the rear speaker kit to install. Hopefully will get going on that soon.

This will improve your sound 2 fold

Installed two parking lights in my headlights. Pulling the whole headlights out is pretty easy.

I used the Alpine SPS-410 and followed the DIY video on using the old speaker mounting ring. Sounds so much better.

welded roll bar

I dropped her off today for the welded rear roll bar...

wating sux

WillH 04-18-2016 02:54 PM

Canabalized two bad keys,(one slow blink, other bad buttons), to get one that's fully functional. No more having to unlock the car manually and use the floor levers to get to the trunks :)
