PPI Conversation with a Mechanic in NJ

I asked an (alleged) porsche specialist who claimed he had a PST2 to do a PPI. He said what the PST2 could and couldn't do. He said the engine history only went back weeks and you would only know about recent problems.

I then asked him about doing the IMS / RMS retrofit. He said it would cost $1500 and "most of them must already have had it done by now". Then he said they only used the Porsche upgrade kit and didn't know anything about the LNEngineering offering.

In short I am still pricing the IMS / RMS in nothern/central NJ and trying to find somebody reputable beforehand. There's a guy in Peapack, another one in Morristown and lastly Belleville. So far I am not very impressed, any recommendations from forum members?

My recommendation is to NOT go back to this "specialist."

This Boxster is priced very well and would be well worth the trip down to NC to pick it up.

Good luck with your search.

I went to a shop that told me my rotors had a problem that they had never seen before and I needed them changed right away.

You know how when the rotors wear down they develop a small lip on the outer edge? Yeah, that was the 'unusual' problem.

Go to Powertech off Route 80 in Rockaway, NJ. Mike and Keith will take good care of you.

Tom Florio at Advanced Auto in New Windsor NY (Exit 17 NYSthruway) installs the IMS upgrade. Not that far up from NJ.

Well, JFP has a shop right across the border in PA. Yeah sometimes he can be a little grumpy but my impression is that he knows his way around these cars better than most. I'll take competence over smileyface every time.

the guy in belleville has done hundreds of IMS swaps. He works on Rolls Royce, Bentley and BMW as well but mostly Porsche. Very popular with the track guys which is always a good sign. Very reasonable hourly rate as well, particularly for the area.
