Just for my own understanding: These are just for the optics - right?
It seems to me that my Boxster suffers rather from too much lift at the front at high speeds (120+ mph), meaning a rear wing would make this actually worse by adding downforce to the rear (think of a seasaw)
So I am actually looking for an (affordable) solution to push the front down
Any suggestions?

My boxster came with the factory the speedster kit . Not only did I hate the way it looked, but the humps were awkward and clunky and a total pain in the a** to put on and take off . (I can only imagine what a cheap aftermarket set would be like  ). To answer your question, the humps are purely cosmetic, and they offer no aerodynamic advantages . If you're looking to create frontal downforce, I suggest investing in a functional high quality aftermarket bumper . Functional being the operative word .

Humps = aesthetics. Spoiler = function. If you're driving at 120 mph, you're obviously racing and therefore should already have a racing suspension at a minimum and probably should have a front spoiler/ splitter/ground effects nose to keep your front end down. But, proper suspension first and minimum.
Chris, I see from your signature that you already know this so disredard the above transmission. The PIA aspect ( to some ) regarding the humps, isn't shared by me. I drive a Wrangler when not in the Boxster and am used to removing the top when traveling in good weather. Installing and removing the humps is less time consuming than a soft top so it's no issue for me at all. In fact it's actually fun as I can put on the humps and leave them on in the garage as long as I want before taking them off.

Make sure to take care of that window if you're storing the car with the top down for a long time, Steve. Do you happen to have that elusive felt cover for the back window from the factory that's supposed to keep the window from scratching itself against itself in storage?

At 120 it does seem a bit light but it pins itself down at 150.
