How in the world do you remove that brake fluid filter from the reservoir tank? Is there some magic word I have to say to remove,I'm having no luck at all.

Some pop right out, other are a bit more balky and require needle nose pliers.

Why do you want to remove it?

Bentley manual says to remove it and clean it when flushing the brakes.

I also want to remove it to take some of the fluid out of the tank when I change the brake pads.

Are these steps not needed?

Needle-nose pliers worked for me. Be patient but don't be gentle. I think I had to remove mine to use the power bleeder.

Just use a small needle nose pliers or small screwdriver to get the filter to pop out. Be gentle and you should be fine.

Cleaning the filter is probably optional. Removing excess brake fluid that is returned to the reservoir when you push the brake caliper piston back into the caliper to install the new brake pads is usually required to keep the reservoir from overflowing.

It only needs to be cleaned if it is full of crud, which very rarely ever happens as the debris would have to be coming in with the new fluid..............

And you do not need to take fluid out of the master when changing pads; crack open the bleeder on the caliper you are working on and dump the fluid into a catch bottle. Not that much comes out, and what does is often the dirtiest stuff in the system anyway.
