Okay thanks guys...I will have to get hold of a thin soldering iron to break up the lenses. I was concerned with the hot plastic falling free on the inside and fusing to the inside of the housing...how is this avoided?

your best bet is to use the soldering iron. those plastic pieces are very flexible and you'll end up scratching the plastic lenses around it.. so use the iron to melt pieces away and a pair of super long noses to pull em out...

Okay so both tools at once as in grab hold and then melt so nothing gets dropped ?
