If you were to cut open your muffler, this is what you would find. With that in mind, any good quality after-market cat-back exhaust will probably improve* the exhaust sound of your vehicle .
* subject to a individual's definition of improved .
p.s. I forgot to mention that the breathing exercises have a no cost benefit as well.

Thanks for that autopsy view of the stock muffler J.D. Always nice to see what insides of things look like especially when considering a change, in this case mufflers. Still considering the unit from Canada.

FYI, for completeness you might also want to read about the "Crios" mod and the "Pedro Sport Exhaust" on this forum (and on Pedro's site).

Thanks! Had looked at both of those options but didn't want to hack up my stock exhaust and couldn't find a cheap enough one to buy / hack. Guess I'll have to see what the fabspeed sounds like!

Do a search on FDM exhaust mod and you might find what you are looking for

Johnny D, what year and model (base/S) is that muffler? Other photos of the muffler interior I have seen show a three chambered muffler.

I'd like to know this as well. Also want to know if it can be retrofitted to a 2000 S. It looks like it must flow better than the 3 chamber.
