I've had the Smarttop for over a year now and love it. Bought mine used off eBay for less than 150. If you hunt online, you can get a good deal on one.

Just remember that when the window is cold, you have to chop it...I use a towel given to me by the original owner...But on a hot sunny day, once the window warms up, I do not hesitate to drop it without stopping to do the infamous "chop"...

I have a SmartTop

and use the "while moving slowly" feature all the time. Almost never use the one-touch as I need to do the chop due to the fitting of my top. I guess I use it when putting the top up on a hot day when it starts raining or just gets too hot and I pull up to a stop light and don't know how long the light is. Nice to be able to pull out and not hear the honking horns behind as the top closes the last 6 inches.

I would definitely use it... I have glass, so no need for the plastic chop, and while it's not a huge issue, it is an inconvenience to have to hold the button for the 12 or so seconds... Compared to all of the cool gadgetry in the more modern cars that I've been driving, such as the touch-open entry on the BMW and Lexus that doesn't require even using the remote fob or keys to unlock the doors (just unlocks or locks when you touch the handle, so long as your remote fob is in your pocket or vicinity), and push-botton ignition without having to reach for your keys, it makes small things like having to hold your arms stretched out and holding the convertible top button down for 12 seconds seem antiquated...

Please let me know if you are designing a cheaper alternative to the smarttop..

Thanks!

First, I'd be very cautious putting the top down when cold with a plastic window (can you say "crack"). Second, even when warm, the plastic window will crease at times if not chopped, giving you a nice pinch in the plastic. My top/window is 8 years old and in almost perfect condition, though this is not a daily driver.

The one touch is a nice convenience, if offered for a reasonable price.

I've got the Bahntech Autotop. Half the price of the Smarttop. Works great - love it. Cost is $160 shipped, which I think is still a bit expensive. I think if a product like this could be $99 shipped, that you would sell a ton.
