Clean Alluminium tape in wheel

Hi, I just removed the wheel of my new (to me) boxsterS2006, there is a bunch of old aluminum tape inside the wheel. (used to fix weight to balance the weel I guess). Anyone have a good suggestion about how to clean that up without scratching the wheel?

My guess is with a plastic screeper and a heat gun but maybe some have a better idea to save my time and energy..

Thanks

vipola,

I used a product called "Goof Off" (www.goof-off.com). I imagine that it is available internationally. It softend the adhesive enough to scrape/rub it off with a phenolic scraper.

Phenolic is a material that used to be used to make old circuit boards. I got the scraper from www.aircraft-tool.com. It took a LOT of scraping and rubbing. You must be careful to scrape only with the flat of the scraper, the corner could scratch the wheel. I hope this helps.

Goo gone maybe? Not sure if it's safe for painted surfaces. WD-40 works good for tree sap on cars, so that might be another option.

Try using regular corn oil. I've used it to remove various sap and glues. Or use aceton... finger nail polish remover.

WD-40 rules!!

(It's also effective against attacking hornets (although I have not tried it against Killer Bees!))

I have had good results with Bug & Tar remover. Dissolves the adhesive and you just rub it off with a rag, no scratches. Then clean with a good detergent such as dish detergent that dissolves oil and grease.
