Quickjack questions

Not sure if this belongs here or in the general discussion thread. Does anyone have the Quickjack that Pelican sells? I'm wondering how well it works. Most importantly, how easy is it to store away when not using? I have a two car garage but not a lot of room with all the workbenches and whatnot so not a lot of room to store things like that. I do have a shed that sits beside the garage so how much of a pain is it to wheel the whole assembly to and from the shed? As I get older, the whole jack and jack stand thing gets harder and harder.

My dream is to build a bigger garage out back and put in an actual lift but that will have to wait a while. The Quickjack looks like a great thing for lifting the car off the ground for oil changes, brake jobs, and even detailing.

I'm interested in hearing opinions.

I have 2 of them. Next to the mini split I installed it's the best thing I have bought for my garage.

I just push them to the center of the car, disconnect the lines and just park over them if I need to. They are too heavy to just pick up and roll & store on the wall. You sure dont want to haul them out to the shed every time.

As Stl says just leave them under the car. I have the 3500 which works for my Boxster and my 928. Like all of us I am getting older (and am likely further along than the majority here) and the Quickjacks really help.
I like the 3500 as it is the smallest and lightest, but it is too short to get to the Boxster lift points so I made some extensions that work both on my Boxster and my 928 (also used on my 924S, my girlfriends Yaris etc.)
This thread shows what I built... along with a lot of discussion on the other models and 928s.

I've got the 5000 set. i use them for everything. They have been a great alternative to a full size lift. You can slide them under the car or store them vertically in a corner and move them as needed.

Since everyone is listing what they use them on, Boxster, 924, 944 Turbo, 996, Mercedes GLK and bought the SUV extensions for my wife's Jeep Renegade.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't think about the ability to just park over top of them so that will prevent me from having to move them around and find storage for them. That settles it, I need to buy one! Costco has a good price on them, although I'm told that Costco oftentimes has them on sale...but I don't know if I can wait.

Wait, it is worth it. When they do a sale it's usually for a bundle. My last one I got the bundle which included the pinch weld pads and wall mount brackets (still in the box) and it was less then their normal price for the regular 5000. $1100 is usually the sale price.

Looks like they have the standard SLX5000 on sale for $1050 right now. That isn't a bad price. That one usually goes on sale for $999 a few times a year but it's still a good deal at $1050. The slx7000 is a better deal right now if you have heavier cars.

Will the slx7000 fit under the boxster ?

I have a slew of different cars with the boxster being the smallest and a Chrysler Aspen being the largest.

Would love to find a quickjack that will fit them all.

Honestly, dont know. I think it will. Check the documents they have that walk through the measuring process. There is still plenty of room with the 5000 so I am leaning towards it fitting.

3500 is too short for the Boxster. Extensions will often make the collapsed height too high for a lowered car. 5000 probably the best bet

I've got the 5000 and use it all the time on my 987 Cayman, haven't needed to use it yet on the Boxster, but every time I use it I wish I had gotten it sooner. I got it from Home Depot, free shipping, and it was on sale, I forget the price but around $1000.

I have the quickjack slx7000. Bought from Costco on sale. Super great purchase. I just did the IMS bearing and rear main seal on my Boxster S, which required taking my tiptronic out of the car, and the QuickJack made it sooo much easier... It gets the boxster up high enough there's plenty of room to work underneath. There is even enough height to get the engine out. It has paid for itself many times over already...

I stand mine up against the wall of my garage when I'm not using it. When you store it this way it takes up almost no space.

Quickjack question

I have two questions if anyone can assist.
I just bought the 5k lb jack and set it all up.
Reading the manual page by page, after filling the reservoir it talks about bleeding the hydraulic cylinders. The manual I have says lift it and use the blocks and the online manual says to lift it straight up all the way with the wheels up as this pushes the air to the bleed screw.

My question is, it says to loosen the bleeder screw 3/4 of a turn so the air can escape. BUT it hasn't been powered on yet and there's no pressure in the system. It's bled when there's no more air. Wouldn't I have to power it first to push all the air through the hoses, then bleed?

And the 2nd question, when I was filling the reservoir I saw a tiny piece of paper go into the reservoir. I guess from the wet sealing cover that came off in pieces and I guess one piece fell in to the quart bottle.
I Googled and only thing I saw was a photo of the reservoir removed that the guy had an issue. I saw there's a large screen in the reservoir, should I not worry about it and let that tiny piece of seal float around in the reservoir cause the filter should stop it.
Or since it's brand new and not run yet, should I take the reservoir off and drain the fluid with a filter and get the little piece out.

1st, did you put the little amount of air it needs yet?

It is a pretty easy process. hook everything up, put fluid in, lift the ends up so air can escape (lean them against the wall) and then run the pump till fluid comes out. Doesn't take much. then lay them on the ground and run it all the way up & down a few times till it's in sync.

What you are trying to do is get the fluid into the cylinder, it will push air back out if there is any.

Best thing to do is watch the multitude of videos on youtube, so much easier when you see someone do it.

Yes, I got the air cylinders at 45.
Ok, I was questioning cause the manual doesn't say to turn it on to bleed the air.
I'll check out some videos, thanks

You can run the pump or not. Not going to hurt anything if you do. It should come out without running the pump, but sometimes you need to.

I just got the slx7000 and it fits under my 2001 Boxster but it is close. Might be a problem if the suspension is lowered but figure some 2x8 blocks under the tires would fix that and could be driven off of without an issue.

I got the 7000 model as well from Costco.

Assembly was not a breeze, but not a problem as some state. No leaks, not issues whatsoever.
Yes, it took time and... thinking a few times. I spent more time on bleeding, though.

As for fitment.
When in resting position I can drive and park Boxster over them no problem. Same with Bolt and Q5 of course.

As for lifting the car.
Using the largest blocks it works just fine. The length is perfect. No need for extensions or such.
I have not tried Q5 yet, but I did try Bolt (about 3600 lb) and it went up no sweat. Here I got a bit puzzle where to position the blocks as the exact position for the back is where the channel is separated, but I got it worked out.

I must try Q5 (4000 lb) soon.

Why 7000? Because the plan is to trade Q5 for Q5 55e which is too close to 5000 lb limit for the smaller version of QuickJack.

The 5000 is probably going to be your best bet. 7000 is to big. 3500 you might be able to get away with it but I wouldnt risk it.

Seems like the 7000 will work per previous posts!
