Would Jake ship a built engine to me and I wuold install it. Think he would discount it a few grand?
While I was down at Jake's shop in October for an IMS retrofit in my '02 S, I got an extensive tour and had the opportunity for a close look a couple of engines he was rebuilding. Very impressive. He gives classes on engine rebuilding to mechanics from all over the country, including many employed by dealers. If I were in the market for a rebuild, Jake would be the first guy I'd go to. No question it'll be done right.

Why not go for a rebuild that's not a "beast" if cost is an issue? The factory rebuild is going to have the same IMS bearing issue as the engine you just pulled. Unless you're capable of installing the engine yourself, it might not be much more than shipping an engine back and forth to simply ship your car down to Jake to do the entire job and then fly down and drive back.

BTW, I don't think "discount" is part of Jake's vocabulary. Quality costs.
