I will say I like that they apparently added the cool steering wheel from the 911 Turbo including the paddles for PDK that everyone has been screaming for. still, not enough for me. these will likely end up in future model Boxsters anyway (if they have half a brain).

JEALOUS

–adjective
1. feeling resentment against someone because of that person's rivalry, success, or advantages (often fol. by of): He was jealous of his rich brother.
2. feeling resentment because of another's success, advantage, etc. (often fol. by of): He was jealous of his brother's wealth.

It's a REAL man's car. But I like my A/C, stereo and top - I must be a wose :(

I like the idea of a stripped-down Boxster thats performance tuned and lightened. But I am not wild about the bumps on the back of the Spyder, and when looking for a daily driver, like me, the no-top thing does not make a lot of sense. Still if they wanted to trade me my car for the impractical new Spyder with the funny bumps, I think I could make it work....

Atleast we know what the result is for all the speculation about the Boxster Speedster spyshots we saw a few months ago.

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/spyshots-2011-porsche-boxster-speedster-6174.html

I never listen to the radio nor put the AC on when I drive my Boxster so that wouldn't bother me. Looking at the specs though, this lightened Boxster is only marginally faster than an S model. Regardless, if I could afford this I'd love to get it, but this clearly wouldn't work for me in my state's climate. I would have to factor in the cost moving to a warmer place to live!

I like how the intro makes it sound like the lack of cup holders is a brand new achievement in weight reduction...

Jaay, don't want to be pointless again, but I used to work in Shoreham NY about 20 years ago (I went to Mattituck HS).

The Spyder probably won't sell very well, but it will be one of those ultra rare collector Porsches in 20-30 years. The one piece humps panel look better than having two separate clamshell/trunk lid with the seam in between. I'm surprised though that they couldn't shave more weight. Only 176lbs less than a Cayman with the same 0-60 time on a 6-spd, looks like same engine.

Stuff a 3.6 or 3.8 in an early car and blow the doors off the new arachnoid.

CRCGuy 11-07-2009 12:41 AM

Does anyone know if you can remove the motor from the top and operate it manually?

If so, I'll just buy a 2006/7 ish 987, remove bits and sell on ebay and be 98% there (only better with a real top) and buy an FJ Cruiser I want with the $30k I saved.

aparmex 11-07-2009 05:48 AM

Well, that spyder looks great in pictures but as many people in this thread have said it is pointless for every day use, it has some similarities and look like a Pontiac solstice from the back, I have a boxster and I have the speedster humps that I can put and remove, those things you can remove them in like a minute, so if the rain strikes, just take them off and put the soft top and that´s it, very easy and fast, I prefer my boxter that this boxster spyder, also on the other hand I have a spyder replica in my garage and I like it very much !! but honestly I use that car once a month so it is an expensive toy, I had been thinking many times about selling it but I like it too much, I had so much time and effort invested on that car but honestly is useless, lets not forget that the originally spyder was desinged with one purpose in mind, to race, the new boxster spyder for me is not a race car, it will not defeat a GT3 or any Ferrari, and neither is an every day car, so it looks nice to have it in a garage stored but is useless, it will not sell very well like the boxster or the cayman so maybe is only a collector´s car, and with this crisis I think very few will buy it !!!

Honestly I prefer my spyder even do it is a replica, I will also keep my boxster with speedster humps, also I can add to that that I am putting a zeintop on it, so I can have for winter a cayman and for summer a boxster spyder :D!!! i will only need to get the emblem and the side strips :D!!

My youngest son (the same one that at 13 came up with the famous DIY zip tie method to replace a 944/951/968 oil pan / gasket) and I looked at this new Spyder and think that it has some design elements of the Carrera GT. Maybe Porsche is trying to envoke some of the GT's vibe and "mojo" in this car.

BTW, we both like it, but than again I also love the new 911GT3 RS with those wild graphics too.....

turbo23dog 11-07-2009 08:41 AM

I guess I somewhat see the lineage...

With spoiler retracted, it is a bit more obvious.

Bobiam 11-08-2009 06:16 AM

Let me get this straight. It doesn't have a real roof???? Just a "fly"?? Security, heat, weather protection?

Bobiam 11-08-2009 06:50 AM

$13K more than the base boxster, lacks a real roof and you have to assemble the roof each time you want it up, lacks AC (except that it shows AC in the on-line ad!!). 10 more HP than the S. I like the speed humps, but I'd pay more for the S (but IT costs less!!).

There have been many times that my power top button has prevented me form getting an untimely bath.

The concept is cool, but it just isn't practical except for someone that has money to burn.

jmatta 11-09-2009 05:12 AM

I'll take this instead...complete with GT3 suspension and 3.8 X51 powerplant and a fixed top.
