1997 2.5
1997 Boxster 2.5L 126,000 kms and no troubles. Had it up on the rack and the engine is bone dry. no leaks whatsoever. just did the waterpump et al. I should add that I purchased the car last April 2011 and have put on 12km since. I can't stop driving it. It is my daily driver. I've heard from Porsche mechanics that driving these things everyday and maintaining them is better than letting them sit for months in a garage. Low miles on a boxster is not always a good thing. My goal is to get it perfectly maintained and when I can afford an '09 pull the trigger.

Need help
I just bought a '97 Boxster with 31K on it. It has a TPC supercharger and I need to find a rebuild kit for the super charger. Any ideas on this or what kind of supercharger it is? Looks like and eaton but not sure what model.
Thanks..

bought a '99 base in July w/ 66,000 mi. Put 5,000 on so far and the engine is running great. Had to put a new top on it besause of the plastic cracking. Yes, I'm knocking on wood.

2000 S - Third owner - I bought it in Dec 2008 with 16k miles. Have 40k on it now. Replaced air flow meter $400. Did 30k service, oil changes etc. - That's it.
What an awesome car. Everytime I take it in to a mechanic I get comments on the great shape it's in.

True I have only..
had my 2001 Boxster base for six months and it has only 37k miles on it, it has been a great car so far. Installed IMS guardian on it last week. No breakdowns but have done cv boots, bought 2nd hand winter tires/rims. It is better on snow covered roads than my 99 MX5 Miata. Miss the MX5 but overall the Boxster is more fun and more car. Now if only I could find a way to stop my wife complaining about the Porsche $ outlay(so far $2000 since I got it).....:ah:

Bought my 00 986 2.7L last year with 76,900 miles. Now has 85,000 miles. I am the 4th owner.
Mechanic advised me to replace water pump since he can tell it was going bad. Also replaced driver side inner tie rod, rear plastic window, and cleaned the throttle body. And replaced about 6 different light bulbs that all seemed to go bad within the 1 year I owned it. Remote battery was replaced and needs to be re-programmed to car but I refuse to pay the quoted $350 from Porsche. No signs of bad IMS or RMS when I checked the oil filter during an oil change 2000 miles ago. Interior door handle is broken-Will not retract leaving driver window 1/4 inch open. I use tape to hold the handle closed. Porsche wants $400 to fix-I refuse.
So the only mechanical fixes were inner tie rod and water pump.
$750 total parts and labor done at a normal cheap mechanic shop in Philly.
But now I can hear my starter going bad at start ups in cold weather. Also my ignition switch is getting harder to turn. That is going to need to be replaced soon.

I have a 2003S with 71,200 miles the only item that gives me a headache is the notchy second gear shift. Sometimes it doesn't want to go in. I been warming up the engine for 5 minutes before leaving and it has improved somewhat but every once in a while it does it again.

02 base, orig owner with 75k miles, tracked ~35 track days, light mods of b & b exhaust, afe intake, h & r springs. Had rms seals replaced under warranty years ago, otherwise no major problem.
Minor problem was just the ignition switch and just recently either the power steering pump or lines (leaking causing smoke out of the side vents at the Infineon track).

I have a 2000 Boxster 74,000 miles I'm the second owner It runs great and we have not had any problems with it. We just put new Potenza tires on it and Had a local Porsche shop do a brake upgrade with new Pads and drilled rotors. Stainless braided lines. etc. I'm new to these cars and worry about this IMS fail people are talking about.

You know, I have been a Porsche fan since day 1 when I began spannering changing engines & gearboxes in VW type 1 Beetles. Buying 2 crap cars to make 1 good one.During that time we (dad & I)always dreamt of Porsches. Fast forward 30Yrs and I have a 2001 BOX 3.2. The look on his face, when the garage opened, I will never forget. He is 78 now and loves the car.
I have replaced the IMS bearing for peace of mind & recently did the water pump & low temp thermostat & engine mount.
Overall the vehicle is reliable & well cared for.
Definitely recommend a PPI by a qualified P car mechanic.
Be careful what you buy and it will serve you well. Buy bad & you will pay$$$$

Sitting here in my 95k 2.5 with track day plans ahead of me, I like the sound of that.

I hate to jinx myself..... but...
2001 S
Just turned 200,000kms... with tons of track time.
I had a few rms seals replaced when it was new
Had to do a clutch when the pressure plate failed around 160,000km
Replaced the coolant bottle
On my 2nd go around on shocks / springs / bushings etc
Have done rear bearings 2 times
But considering how many hard track miles this car has its amazing. When it finally needs it I am debating a factory 3.6 or one of Jakes but I don't think this car owes me anything!
