Porsche sort of screwed all of us, that is especially true for the poor shlubs that bought the 04 limited edition, they should have named it the limited for now edition.

Curious what you mean about the 04 LE? I bought one used (2mos old, 190 miles on it) for $48k, so I got a great deal, but what makes you feel sorrier for us than for other 986 buyers?
27k miles with no problems so far.

What I think he meant was that Porsche did a Limited Edition too soon after the 2004. They did it with the Orange SE/LE in 2007 and again with the SE/LE RS 60 Boxster.

Ohhh... well, if that's what he meant, who cares? My car was old news by the time I bought it (Feb 05) because the 987 was already out. I don't think subsequent LEs made any difference. If you want an LE that's a 986, then this is still your only choice. If you want a 987, then all the "limited edition" dressing in the world isn't going to turn a 986 into one. I wanted a 986 so that's what I got. And how do they get off calling a run of 1954 identical cars "limited" anyway?

expensive touch up paint
was on way to bmw dealership for a bottle of touch up paint for my 1975 bmw 2002 3 weeks ago. i had to pass the P dealership both ways. had a very nice 2008 s with 6 k miles and a fair lode of options. they wanted 49k. my 2002 was in storage for 19 years, had 90k miles on it and was in good condition. drove the box, had check book in hand, and was ready to buy. told sales person only had 40k in the account, no more. told him i was writing check for 40k to buy today. wouldn't do the deal; i walked. drove 30 mins, found another with fewer options and wrote a check for 40k.
man, that paint cost me 40k, but color was wrong

Dan:
LOL! Real BMW's have round tail lights...yours is off by two years! J/K!
Congrats on your new purchase. As other posters have mentioned in this thread, cash is king. The other interesting bit about your "adventure" is that if the first dealer actually let you walk out without taking your 40K on the spot, you know that you are definitely getting a good deal on the one you bought.
Regards, Maurice.
