bump for bmussatti. The immobilizer make its a main in the a** to steal (unless you steal the key) and most people keep theirs tucked away and bring em up for just the weekend.

My cousins 97 was stolen from Beverly Hills Porsche storage lot when it went in for its 60k mile service back in 2004. The video clip from the dealership cameras showed the car just pulling straight out of the lot. It never captured the individual because the cameras were on automatic rotation and whoever stole the car knew that and avoided it.

They never did find the car... On a brighter note though since the car was purchased new from Beverly Hills Porsche in July of 97 the dealer paid out $35k for the car...

If a thief wants your car an immobiliser won't stop him. I had a cop friend who told me they drill through the hood and drain the battery effectively killing the alarm. Then they can tow the car away quite easily. Most parts are not sold on eBay or Craigs List (too much exposure) but directly to auto body shops which charge the insurance companies full price. I have heard that most of the high price cars that are stolen are shipped out of the country where they can be easily retitled.

Usually a Box has a dead battery so that are really hard to steal. Shoot, you can't even get into the trunk to jump it.
