has anyone ever stolen your Porsche?
Hey all,
I was just reading about the latest data concerning the theft rates of cars and I was wondering, "Has anyone had their Porsche stolen?" Mine hasn't, but since Porsche didn't make the list, I wanted to have people share their experiences, if any. BTW since I am posting this peruser, the reader can tell that my car is running tip-top! Otherwise I'd be asking advice P.S. on the political front, please vote for Obama *S* for real.

I think Porsches are not stolen often because:
1) Hard to steel because of the alarm/immobilizers and key technology
2) Often garaged
3) Limited production...therfore limited stolen parts market
4) Who would buy stolen Porsche parts

Porsches that do get stolen, especially in Europe, tend to go to chop shops and are sold for parts. Some parts on ebay and for sale other places come from stolen cars. In some cases the cars are loaded onto ships and taken to europe and possibly other continents for sale.

bump for bmussatti. The immobilizer make its a main in the a** to steal (unless you steal the key) and most people keep theirs tucked away and bring em up for just the weekend.

My cousins 97 was stolen from Beverly Hills Porsche storage lot when it went in for its 60k mile service back in 2004. The video clip from the dealership cameras showed the car just pulling straight out of the lot. It never captured the individual because the cameras were on automatic rotation and whoever stole the car knew that and avoided it.
They never did find the car... On a brighter note though since the car was purchased new from Beverly Hills Porsche in July of 97 the dealer paid out $35k for the car...

If a thief wants your car an immobiliser won't stop him. I had a cop friend who told me they drill through the hood and drain the battery effectively killing the alarm. Then they can tow the car away quite easily. Most parts are not sold on eBay or Craigs List (too much exposure) but directly to auto body shops which charge the insurance companies full price. I have heard that most of the high price cars that are stolen are shipped out of the country where they can be easily retitled.

Usually a Box has a dead battery so that are really hard to steal. Shoot, you can't even get into the trunk to jump it.

Hmmm... I've got LoJack installed, garage it, lock it with the alarm on, and keep a 12 gauge close by at home. I sleep just fine at night and don't really worry about it.

I leave mine in my garage, unlocked, with the key in the non-smokers tray in the console. If they break into my house and take the car, it would be the least of my concerns.

Nope, but my insurance rates sure jumped up when I bought it. Maybe they get vandalized a lot, just not stolen.
