Damn thats such a master peice!
I'd ask them to place the old engine back in that crate and you take to a DIy carwash and use the high pressure degreaser setting to clean that sucker off and make it a conversation peice!

No,
they FINALLY (after like 6+ weeks) approved the repair and eventually even sent the check for the engine and the repair (after another week of waiting). I'll post a complete summary when I have my car back (don't want to jinx it)

Good idea but won't work.
You need to return the old (identical - so no 3.6L conversion here) engine to avoid a $3k core charge

Sounds interesting.
What date in August, which driving organization and how much do they charge?
So far I was planning on Thunderhill August 16/17 with PCA (same weekend as the Monterey Historics , provided that I have enough time to break in my new engine properly

Chris, do a proper engine break in and change the oil at the 1,000 mile mark.

break in procedures
Seems like I am hi-jacking my own thread now
What I was planning is to break in the engine for at least 2,000 ~ 2,500 miles
with the usual procedures:
* don't rev over 4000 RPM
* no lugging
* change speed/RPM frequently
* change oil/filter at 1,000 miles
I have about 6 weeks to do that. As my Box is my daily driver I put about 1,500 miles / month on it nyways and I was planning to do some nice weekend trips as well. That should bring me to 2,500 miles on the new engine before mid-August
And it worst comes to worst: Nobody forces me to redline the engine on the track, I might as well take it "easy" (6,000 RPM max) and focus more on the line
Comments, Suggestions?

Chris, sounds good! 2,000 miles is fine. You don't need to go the extra 500.

Chris,
Here is the link: http://www.speedventures.com/events/Default.aspx
It is no cheap day at the track but tons of track time and the opportunity to run down a bunch of V8's and rice rockets in our little Nazi go carts.

The price sounds about right for Laguna Seca on a weekend.
And passing V8's in our Nazi Go-Karts sound like a lot of fun (almost as much as passing Turbos and GT3s)
Unfortunately the date doesn't work for me , so T'Hill a weekend earlier will be the date my Boxster goes back to the track

Chris,
What warranty company did you go through? At what cost?

I will post a logfer writeup about my experiences with the warrant company when I finally have my car back, so here's the quick & dirty:
The company is Warranty Direct
I bough the warranty when I bought the car the premium was around $2.6k (no deductible); coverage until the care reaches 100k miles
they paid so far (prices as I remember them, might be a bit off)
* CV boot: $450
* signal stack: $160
* RMS: $1k
* engine failure: ~ $14k
So you could say that I am way ahead here
However, there are a few things which are not so pleasant, for example the car was/will be out of action for a total of almost 2 months and I will get reimbursed for a rental car for 3 or maybe 4 days
Again I will do a longer writeup when I have my car back ...

While having to cover the rental car your self sucks, it beats shelling out $14k. When you do your write up could you talk about how much/if any trouble hey gave you about replacing the engine.

What engine are you putting in? 2.7, 3.2, or 3.4? Your car had a 3.2 and now you are putting in a . . . ?
Also, are you getting this done at an indy shop or AD? Lastly...out of curiosity, does this new engine come with a factory warranty?
