Question

How about Mobil1 5W-50? Not in approved list, but seems to make sense in NV heat?

I would be fine using that oil in the desert.

This is the only Porsche approved 5W50 oil right now. But, you can't buy it in the USA. Canada has it and in Europe.

amsoil's euro blend is a 5w-40. while it may meet VW stds, MB stds, etc. it may or may not have the approvals from VW, MB, etc.

it is very good stuff.

Thanks NickCats for the info!

I recently had my oil changed at Mark Motors in Ottawa and saw the same Elf Exc 5w40 and was a little concerned as the most up to date "Porsche Approved" oil list that I had found off of google did not include Elf.

My worries have been assuaged.

Cheers.
