15W-50 vs 10W-30 which should I use?

Which Engine Oil should I use? I live in New Orleans.....

According to

http://www.986faq.com/2-0/default.asp#011

"10W-30 For areas where continuous ambient temperatures get below 50°F/10°C for significant periods of time but remain above 32°F/10°C most of the time.

15W-50 For areas where continuous ambient temperatures stay above 50°F/10°C most of the time."

Refer to your owners manual. Generally, the manual recommends Mobil 1 -W-40, not the weights you refer to.

However, some folks in wamer climates use M1 15W-50 in summer, which USED to be the oil that Porsche specd.

I am reasonalby usre that 10W-30 has never been recommended by Porsche for a Box.

be sure to use a quality synthetic.

If you want to use a 50 weight oil, the only Porsche approved one is Mobil 1 5W50. Unfortunately, this oil is not being sold in the USA. You can find it in Canada.

I might try this oil in late 2008.

You will be well served by 0W40 Mobil 1

Hello.
I've already switch to 5W50. It's on the Porsche approved oil list for Boxster.
Take a look at this renntech post.

Mobil 1 0W-40, as others have mentioned already. The approved list also has a Mobil 1 5w-40, but I've never seen it available in the Boston-area stores. There are no xW-30 oils listed.

paul...

When the dealer changed the oil, they put in M1 0w-40.
