Thumbs up $120 HID light upgrade for you Halogen guys

Hey incase any of you are interested in replacing your halogen bulbs with a good HID bulb kit, Goto the link i post and select the bulb color you like and the bulb size your boxster uses ignore the other options cause you dont need them.

Then click "add to cart" and enter this promo code "groupbuy2" without the quotes and the price will drop from $220 to $120 bucks.

My buddy already bought some from this guy and they work great, comes with balasts and HID bulbs, No wire cutting involved cause the balast comes made specifically for your bulb type so your factory wiring plugs right into it. They give you a 1 year warranty for bulbs and the balasts.

My gf just bought a set for her 08 c-class, she didnt realize she didnt get the HID upgrade from the dealer lol.

Just dont forget to change your headlight fuses from a 7.5amp into a 15amp.

Promo Code: groupbuy2

Factory Litronic color is 4300k and 5000k, My buddy has got the 6000k kit which is what i would get..

My GF is getting 6000k, its an H7 bulb, The OEM bulb color for the MBZ HID would probably be the same as the boxster between 4300k and 5000k.

Its funny you say Xenon cause wednesday i had this conversation with someone about my Litronics headlights and he asked me if i had Xenon or HID, and i said hmmm isnt it the same thing and he said Xenon are just bulbs that dont require a balast cause they arent High Intensity... and HID are High Intensity and are better than Xenon.

Is this true, is Xenon a halfway point between a Halogen and a HID Litronic?

Fyi

If you already have Litronics and would like to upgrade the bulbs to a brighter or bluer color... you have to contact the vendor and ask how much for DS2 HID bulbs.

Porsches use a type DS2 HID bulb.

Here you go, looks like you need to decide on the level of yellowness you want using this guide.

This will help alittle more. Looks like you'd want JDM Yellow 3000k.

CJ,

You sure the 2008 Mercedes C Class uses the H7 Bulb?

CJ, first off, thank you for posting this.

This thread on renntech gives a nice guide to install the H7 HID bulbs into the boxster:
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10247

I do have one question. In the above thread, 986Jim mentions the drilling one needs to do into the plastic cover of the factory headlight in order to pass the wiring through (that is one reason I've been holding off on that upgrade).

Is anyone (CJ?) here positive that there is no drilling etc. involved with the bulbs from CJ's link? Thanks very much!!!

You will have to drill through your black plastic cover on the back of your headlight housing in order to have the wires from the balast pass through into the housing... cause the balast sits outside the housing. Even on Litronics, the balast sits outside the housing and theres a hole in the plastic cover where the wires go through.

If your worried about condensation getting inside the hole you made... Buy some of that black stucky rubber stuff they sell at pep boys or autozone, its used to seal windsheilds onto cars, you can gun up the hole once the wires are in and you should be fine... If you mess up i think the covers are cheap anyway.

Xenon is the gas within the headlight that's charged with electricity to produce light. These require the ballast and are the bulbs used in "litronics" and "HID" systems.

Direct fit Halogen replacement blue bulbs that are sometimes called Xenon (on ebay and such) aren't really Xenon at all.

If you have oem litronics but don't like the color, or if your litronic bulb burns out, can you use the bulbs in this kit rather than buy the oem bulbs which I understand are $250/ea?

What do you mean by size? Does "H7" relate to size?

H7 is the size of the bulb for a non-litronic headlight assembly, if you want to replace your factory litronic bulb, you need to ask the vendor for a replacement DS2 bulb which is what litronics are which is No you cant use the ones in the kit, but the vendor does carry the DS2 bulbs for our litronics... you'll have to email them and ask for pricing.

EDIT: i think its called a D2c bulb for litronic replacement bulbs... A way to check is to remove the bulb from the housing and itll say what type on bulbs housing.

So the size is H7 for the Boxster 986? Do I need to get the wire harness? They are offering a free Luminics halogen bulb set? What are those all about and if free why not take them?

I forget what size the OEM 986 bulb size is. No you dont need the wire harness but if you want some redundancy added to your wiring, the extra harness has fuses incase the balast shorts out, the new harness will blow its fuse to protect your factory wiring.
