It sounds more like the car has immobilized it self for some reason. This happens when you try and start the car and the car does not receive a signal from the key. So if your keys battery is dead, and you tried to start the car, it could become immobilized.


Neither ignition key works, including one that's only about a year old.

Since everything worked perfectly up to the time of the car battery died, my guess is that it's most likely related to that, and perhaps the time that it was dead.
