Umm, guys, I think this was an April fools joke, maybe a Halloween prank? No, I got it. Maybe a gang banger stole his computer and posted here. Seriously, when I think Pontiac GTO, I think a skinny kid with boxers out, wife beater t-shirt, and a red gang bandana on his head. I also think of my mother in law's surprise visits into town in her Grand Prix.
Maybe we are biased, right? I bet if you post the same question on the Pontiac forum, at least half would still choose the Porsche or Mercedes. If you want speed, pony up the extra 8 and get a real engine- v12 cl600. They are often on ebay for less than 30.
I have a feeling you posted this because you knew it would get a lot of responses and you wanted your ebay link to get the publicity. At least I hope so!

blkboxster, I like your idea of selling your Boxster and buying a GTO. You should also consider selling your Cayenne and get a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is a much nicer SUV than the Cayenne.

Blkboxster, if you want HP, drive your Mercedes. How can you be bored with your Boxster? It has less than 17,000 miles. How many miles have you driven it during your 3-year relationship. You need to drive it more. Become one-with-it. Say to yourself, "Be the Boxster"! Now go do the right thing!
Do you think maybe she is cheating on you?

I sat in a new GTO the other day. I was impressed with the car from that perspective.
I understand they are wicked fast.
Enjoy and welcome back if you ever get another Box.
Good luck.

Here are my two cents, for what it's worth. I understand the appeal of the GTO. I think I just saw in Car and Driver this year that the GTO was the biggest bang for the buck regarding horsepower. It's the cheapest 400 Hp you can buy, especially now on the used market with low demand. Just make sure you're getting the later model (I think it's got a fake hood scoop). Wasn't the first year of manufacturing just 350 Hp or something?
If you like torque and squealing tires, then the GTO seems like the way to go. Back in my high school days this would have been my pick. But I demand more from my cars now. I don't want to just go fast in a straight line. I want a car that is refined inside, comfortable, sexy looking, and can handle the twisties too. The Boxster you have can do these things MUCH better than the GTO.
Switching from looking at the Mercedes to the Pontiac I believe is probably driven ultimately by price and the bang for the buck that the GTO offers. Be careful by just looking at the dollars. I think you ultimately may be very disappointed if you just focus on that.

Has Pontiac build quality gotten any better since I last sat in one a few years ago?
They make so few cars compared to Chevrolet that the interiors are always falling apart after a few years of normal wear and tear.
I know our boxsters are filled with plastic inside (dash, doors, center console if one didn't pay a bunch more for leather) but it feels or seems like the quality of the plastic is better.
I can never ever go back to US made cars. In fact, I don't even want another Japanese car for my sedan-daily-driver. It's gonna be a 5 Series BMW.
American cars just feel cheap to me. Call me a snob, but I can't stand the way they look, feel, or the quality of the interior parts. Corvettes included.
Good luck with the Pontiac purchase. If you keep it a couple of years and trade it when you are bored again it won't be a decision you have to live with all that long.
Hopefully, we'll see you right back here with another newer, faster boxster!

See, proving my point. Why do you need a 400HP car then?

Dude, I've been thinking about your dilemma and going over your older threads as well as the videos you've posted. You seem to like straight-line horsepower, 0-60 runs and the ability to smoke the tires at will. Maybe I have a couple of possibilities for you...

[thinking out loud ] something tells me a decision won't have to be made between a GTO or C32 AMG if the BIN = reserve price.....
I'd love to see '99s selling for $22K (or anything above $20K), but it's really a function of supply and demand. Lots of '99s out there as well as '97, '98, '00, '01, '02, '03, and '04 plus the Ss. Oh yeah.... and the recent R&T article ('99 s/b sub $19K IIRC) doesn't really 'help' either.
