I heard that some cars that are not california cars could have had their engines replaced and it would be impossible to find out. As far as engine trouble goes dont let people here scare you about it. I used to worry alot too untill I saw a guy who has a 99 and has 178K on his original engine. My car doesnt leak in the garage but i checked under it when it was on a lift and it was a bit greasy where the rms is. no big deal. just drive it like you stole it and maintain it. if you really want to know. track the owner down and ask or take it to the dealer and im sure with codes and such they can tell you. btw im in sj and drive to sf everyday so I will wave if I see you.
