'My' First Porsche Service 30k - advise please
Tomorow i take my 02 Box S in for its first service under my owner ship, The car has had 2x minors and 2 majors in its history (all Official Porsche Centre) so OPC said a minor would be perfect.
Now bearing in mind my car is an 02 but only done '32,200 miles' is ther anything that i should specifically ask for?? My new wheels have still to go on and i was planning suspension at the same time i do that so anything suspension related i dont need, my exhaust is also being changed so again that is not a requirement
Things i want to get checked are when the car is first driven and cold the gearbox is a tricky little b*stard 2nd gear especially, once it heats up it is better but not what i would call smooth.
And i need new Pads all round.
Thanks for any help guys!!
P.S My courtesy car is an 07 Cayenne 3.2 v6 petrol, not bad !!!

I have an 01 and for my 30K maintenance I changed the oil and oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and check under and around the car (realized i had a minor rms) and that was it
keep in mind 01 and higher models dont need the spark plugs changed till 60K but my car was sitting for a long time and so i did it early.
good luck

Ive asked them for the Works, i want everything done so its in mint working order. its going to cost a heap of money but i think its worth it on a 5yr old car.

Why would you need to change the spark plugs early if the car sits alot?

I'm in the same situation -- dealing with age more than miles.
My (new to me) '02 S just hit 13K miles! I also wanted to be pro-active, but ended up only changing the oil & oil filter, cabin filter, engine air filter and brake fluid and tires.
I didn't do the coolant because its "lifetime". But that still means 6 years. So I will do that sooner rather than later.
I understand that the '02 and later does not have a replaceable fuel filter. I tried to get that done but my mechanic just smiled at me.
I have mixed feelings on spark plugs. My dealer quoted me $1,000 to change them. Seems they are rather difficult to reach... I suspect that I'll do a coolant flush and change my plugs by the time I hit 30K in two years. Against most advise, I might pro-actively change the MAF, O2 sensors and AOS by that point too.
Have you considered replacing belts?
I can't offer anything on the gearbox. My is very smooth, even when cold.
Good luck with your car.

I changed the sparkplugs not because it sits alot but because of age. also some people recomended at 30k although dealer says to do it at 30k. anyaywa im happy with it changed, the car is noticably smoother.
btw i got all the stuff and did it myself for about 200 bucks....porsche mechanic wanted 780 for the job and i didnt bother asking the dealer for how much they would do it for.

What happens to spark plugs with age (as opposed to use)?

Maybe they have a greater chance of the threads seizing? Don't know.

Sweet well thats it done, They opted for the 36k service even though my car is on 32k., Brake fluid change and all that, they didnt change spark plugs, said no reason too, they oiled my N/S/F bottom ball joint and everything else was perfect.
My gearbox is perfect as well, so it must just be me.
Invoice report shows- Non-porsche battery -dnt know if that is a problem.
Rear Crank oil leak - they said it wasnt an issue or serious
Different tyres front and rear- my new wheels arrive today.
So for the pleasure it only cost me £500.88 in vat
converted $728.44
So im pleased. and just for the record the Cayenne 3.2 v6 was brilliant, i enjoyed it allot. did about 40miles in it.
James

May i ask what that entails??
When i read that on the report sheet, i openly said to them does it require work and they specifically said it wasnt an issue.
What do you recommend, is it costly??
James
