Going past the engine swap to 3.4L, supercharger?

So, in my research for a bit more power, I was wondering if anyone had done a 3.4L swap and then gone on to supercharge/turbo it? I know some people on this board have went to the 3.4, then 3.6 and so on, but I was more curious about the 3.4 with a TPC supercharger in a Boxster. Is there room? How well does the installation go?

Well, you could supercharge it since the engine is the same, but it wouldnt do much good. The supercharger units are made for a 2.5 displacement, a 3.4 would require a lot more air to be pushed through to get the same psi. So a 2.5 supercharger pushing 4.5 psi might only put out 1 psi on the 3.4. Just an example, I dont know the actual numbers.

If you're going to that much trouble, might as well step up to full 996TT powerplant. Or "settle" for the AWD stocker.

I asked this question once and was told a sc designed for the 3.4 in a 996 would not fit along with the 3.4 unless you where willing to lose the rear trunk. from my understanding the truck wall would have to be move back and the engine would have to be mounted lower.

Growing up the car magazines said how amazing Porsches are. Was I brainwashed? Somehow...I doubt it.

That would be a fair trade-off.

Monster engine or flat narrow trunk space ? You make the call.

Yeah, the rear trunk for a supercharger? That is an easy trade-off I think. I know TPC makes a supercharger for the 3.4L for about $11K and they say it generates quite a lot of additional power (378hp at the wheels).

Of course for sinking $15K for a 3.4L and another $10K for the supercharger, it might just be worth it to sell the 98 and buy a more recent S for the better brakes and stuff instead.

I love the ambition to want to change to the 3.4 and then charge it, would it not be better to buy a new box s with a 3.4 engine and then supercharge that (if avail) or maybe your car could be a doner model to a company wanting to develop and test a charger kit.

Its an age old battle the Charger vs the turbo, i wonder the proven best on a box, i would think a charger as the car would surely require 4wd to cope with the turbo kick.

Gary, I would just do the same intercooler as you and call it a day. Some new piping and your good. I am going to beat the poop out of my car. I will be back in a bit. Maybe I will take some video or audio. Check you tube later on.
