Import to the Netherlands... the saga continues: GPS Car Alarms

So the import to the Netherlands was going relatively well. The car has cleared customs with no tax requirements, only mod I need to make is on the sidelights (turn them into indicators), so very little left to do. That is until I got an email from my insurance company this morning....

Evidently, to insure my car, it needs to have a GPS tracking alarm in it.

What?? It is a 2000 Porsche Boxster, not a ^^%%^^ Ferrari !! GPS tracking for the car was probably not even available when it was built!! I'm battling my case with the company (surely not all the cars they have insured have GPS immobilisers in them...imagine the retrofit costs!) but may not be successful, in which case I have two options - screw them and find another insurer (Gieco international is looking really good right now...), or look to install a new alarm system (the old version works fine!!). I think the first option is much better even if it will cost me more (gotta be cheaper than installing a **&&^^% GPS alarm).

If I do end up having to go that route, does anyone have any idea how much a GPS tracking alarm system would cost? Any hints on what brand to use?

Yours in frustration...

Kerry

Kerry, are you an ex-pat on a company assignement? If so, have your company pay the expense. Holland is a great country with great people. Enjoy!

Resolved!

Thanks guys. Holland is a great place with great people, only the bureaucracy can beat you down if you let it.

As it turns out this time, common sence prevails - the company listened to my reasoning for not installing and will insure my car - I just pay a greater deductible if stolen.

It is good to know that there are aftermarket GPS options out there. Not far from the autobahn now....!!
