Wow, they're getting cheap

after having only 1 automatic car, although it had turbo, i swore that ill never in my life ever own an automatic car. every day that i drove it i asked myself what the hell made me get auto, and i sold it 3 months after owning it....never again, more power to those people who can drive like that, i just cant for the life of me, i wanna fall asleep, im bored, i dont know what to do with my right hand, ahhhh, nightmares all over again...

btw, those who have manual cars, when getting into an automatic car, that being your other car or someone else's, do you find yourself trying to find the clutch pedal? (happens to me every single time)

then there's sports shift (Audi) and Tiptronic (Porsche) and SMG, i think (BMW) and Paddle shifter (Ferrari or Lambo?)...that my friend is not boring..hehehehehe!

When not in the box, I find myself using the paddle shifter in my tundra and wife's lexus.

maybe in your country ! It is defenetly not the case in my part of Europe (Denmark, Sweden and Germany). Especially special automatics like TipTronic are attrative.

In america good gas milage and manual shifting (and decent car design, but thats besides the point) is a lot more rare so I guess it's less exclusive.

Also in Europe we have loads and loads of Porsches on the market which makes it a very healthy market where you often get what you pay for and an automatic that was more expensive from the beginning will not likely drop below a manual but with approx 5-10 year old cars there are so many factors this is a science.

To check this go to mobile.de the biggest car market - search for boxster or 911 from 97-99 you will get a lot of results, sort them by price and notice the majority of manuals in the lowest price range.

Right now, I live in a rural middle of nowhere area. I would love to have a manual box. However - I came from the suburbs and will probably be returning to traffic jams in the near future. As a result, I happily bought a tippy-box.

I do not know how many of you drive your cars in high traffic areas, but it is incredibly irritating to have a std. transmission in crowded areas!

From looking over CL and Autotrader it seems like Tips hold value better than manuals generally.

I think this is because most boxsters are getting more miles now and generally the automatics are being purchased by people who don't care too much about total performance, but want a nice cruising car at a good price. Buying a used manual can be more risky if the car has been driven hard IMHO.

I don't know where you got that idea but out here in Cali, the Tip's are more in demand and get better resale value. Plus, they are a lot rarer than the manuals which are a dime a dozen.

^ That's because everyone is California loves to talk on there cell phone. But shifting, holding a phone and steering while avoiding bad drivers is a bit tricky, in a manual.

Of course California Boxsters have more automatics, don't a lot of women and teenagers drive them out there?

Around here, maybe 1 out of 30 Porsche cars are driven by a teenager or woman.

So you can see that Californians are mindful to this fact! We try to be conscientious to other drivers needs! Not like other drivers who would still use their phones in their manual cars, not caring if they hit someone or something or not caring that they can't shift so they have to slow down to whatever speed and piss off the people behind them.
