Europe may ban "sports car"

It appears our "allies" across the pond have a disdain for anything fast, sleek or just things they just can't afford. The proposed law would ban the sale or manufacture of any vehicle that is able to achieve speeds over 101 MPH. All in the name of the environment. This is the new religion and automobiles are the devil.

I wouldn't bet that it would not become law. There are already plans to outlaw classic cars as they are too polluting and uneconomical, our roads and cities are becoming toll controlled to remove cars from them and most of the race tracks are noise limited to the point of closure. The green band wagon has a heck of a pace over here and policies are being put in place for fashionable reasons rather than purely environmental.

Remember that the EU passed a law that bananas had to have a specific curvature

Prius are a joke, a 1.0l diesel city car will do 60-80mpg, another fashion item

If there's one thing the representatives in the EU aren't going to do... it is cut the gross domestic product of their countries by huge slices.

Crazy people lobby for crazy things all the time... not many of them come to fruition.

I'm guessing the reliability couldn't get worse, so this may be one way to keep the cost down and continue to produce sports cars.

Maybe they'll pay Toyota and Honda a visit to find out how they train Americans to build cars the right way. Lord knows American brands aren't well built.

Agreed. I think the ancient system of Kings, queens, ie feudalism, has led to a kind of mindset that can spawn a socialism-based EU.

I believe to most Europeons, this allows the state to keep tightening the noose.

The Prius can actually break 100 but is electronically limited to 105. I believe the only car that can't go 100mph today is the H1 Hummer.

I wouldn't even dignify the EU by calling them/it "socialism-based". Mildly put, I think the EU follows a pure evil itinerary that's partially inherited from the Third Reich's agenda -- a unified Europe that suppresses all the "none compliant" cultures.

It reminds me a bit of the so-called outsourcing that's currently going on here in the US -- where not only the mom & paps businesses go down the drain, but also entire towns and counties.

Again, I'm kind of proud of my fellow Norwegians who voted NO (twice) to join the EU -- at least they got one thing right.

The gas guzzlers are the big cars and SUVs--not necessarily the sports cars.
The Boxster, for example, is extremely fuel efficient, averaging 26 mpg or so in general driving. That probably translates into low carbon emissions relative to the bigger cars. I know the Cayenne is the only Porsche polluter, and they are fixing that by making it a hybrid--along with that 4 dr sedan, probably.

I find it interesting that this politician clearly loves trees more than he does human life. He states that the fast cars have to be made heavier to withstand high-speed crashes and mentions airbags and steel-reinforced crumple zones as examples of excessive weight. So this is the same as saying that his 100mph cars would not need the excessive safety measures that are commonplace in most modern cars. Take out the air bags, the other "excessive weight" safety factors and lets build a 100mph car that protects the environment and kills the evil fossil fuel consuming human life form that is a parasite on the divine mother earth. These politicians get more loony every year. I often wonder if at night time they partake in Pagan festivals dancing around naked in the forest? I wonder how many lives have been saved by the technology developed by Porsche, BMW, Mercedes that is now found in other slower cars? And what companies are more interested in developing methods to reduce car weight than sports car manufactures?

I bet the politican loves these cars!
