Europe may ban "sports car"
It appears our "allies" across the pond have a disdain for anything fast, sleek or just things they just can't afford. The proposed law would ban the sale or manufacture of any vehicle that is able to achieve speeds over 101 MPH. All in the name of the environment. This is the new religion and automobiles are the devil.

I doubt that will ever go through. :ah:

Someone name me how many '07 cars can't go over 101mph.
Let's see...I'm gonna say a Prius...and the Smart Car in '08. From now on, we can only buy Priuses and Smart cars. |
I believe it will pass. The EU is an organization dedicated to making rules.
This one is a no-brainer to me. They will use MMGW and "safety" as the rationale. The boiling frog symdrome all over again. Sad, I hope I am wrong. |
I wouldn't bet that it would not become law. There are already plans to outlaw classic cars as they are too polluting and uneconomical, our roads and cities are becoming toll controlled to remove cars from them and most of the race tracks are noise limited to the point of closure. The green band wagon has a heck of a pace over here and policies are being put in place for fashionable reasons rather than purely environmental.
Remember that the EU passed a law that bananas had to have a specific curvature  Prius are a joke, a 1.0l diesel city car will do 60-80mpg, another fashion item |
Ummm.... Lambo, Ferrari, Citroen, Peugot, Fiat, Maserati, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Bentley, Mini, Lotus, TVR, and a few dozen others might have some lobbying influence on that.
If there's one thing the representatives in the EU aren't going to do... it is cut the gross domestic product of their countries by huge slices. Crazy people lobby for crazy things all the time... not many of them come to fruition. |

Agreed. I think the ancient system of Kings, queens, ie feudalism, has led to a kind of mindset that can spawn a socialism-based EU. I believe to most Europeons, this allows the state to keep tightening the noose. Just my opinion. |

The Prius can actually break 100 but is electronically limited to 105. I believe the only car that can't go 100mph today is the H1 Hummer.

I wouldn't even dignify the EU by calling them/it "socialism-based". Mildly put, I think the EU follows a pure evil itinerary that's partially inherited from the Third Reich's agenda -- a unified Europe that suppresses all the "none compliant" cultures. It reminds me a bit of the so-called outsourcing that's currently going on here in the US -- where not only the mom & paps businesses go down the drain, but also entire towns and counties. Again, I'm kind of proud of my fellow Norwegians who voted NO (twice) to join the EU -- at least they got one thing right. -- peer |

apparently even a prius will do over 100mph. that's the speed Al Gore's son was driving when he got nailed with pot, valium, xanex, pain meds, etc. last week. maybe he was going downhill.
as for the legislation? i think germany would withdraw from the EU before they signed up for THAT piece of crap. |

Maybe they'll pay Toyota and Honda a visit to find out how they train Americans to build cars the right way. Lord knows American brands aren't well built. |

I tend to think of history like a revolving entity that repeats itself over and over again, but with different definitions -- whether it's called communism, fascism, socialism, capitalism, the Romans, the Spartans, the Persians, the Incas, the Norwegians (vikings), etc. -- peer |
