Jeez you guys...?! There's a whole ton of us that need something besides intimate seating for two. I've got two SUVs and can't wait for a decent Cross Over to get my wife out of her tank. They're lighter, good in Winter and still roomy. Why shouldn't the P-boys build them? I'd rather them or a small Audi than any other brands at the moment.

Some of you sound like step children who act out when your 'parents' have a new baby in the house. I just wish it wasn't taking so long...

Useless model??? bwahahahahaha OMG Porsche might not be around if it weren't for the Cayenne. That SUV has brought so much revenue to the company that it can keep developing sports cars even with Carrera and Boxster sales are down.

I still don't understand why 90% of SUV owners drive SUV as daily drivers.
Most I know are the only passenger in the car 90% of the time and the car is empty of Cargo 90% of the time and about half of them drive their cars in urban areas only.
If I drove a car every day I'd be driving a hybrid Prius or something. I just walked past my complex's parking lot and nearly 3/4's of the cars were 3 ton+ SUVs.
I saw a commerical for the Buick Enclave "the most luxurious suv in the world"
what's next swarovzki diamon encrusted flannel pajamas?

no more SUVs please...

+1. I don't understand it either. Most minivans I see are only occupied by 1 person as well.

@ P/L & chills...here, probably I could shed some light to your question..hehehehe!
Before I jump into sports cars, I use to own 3 trucks..97 Suburban faily hauler, 99 Dodge Ram 1500 Cab w/ long bed, camper shell, carpeted cargo that turns into twin size bed w/ 3" lift kit to pull my 89 Ford Bronco w/ 3" suspension lift and 1 1/2 body lift sitting on a super swamper tires when i go four wheeling locally..

Why do i drive it as a D/D? coz' I feel superior on the street/freeway with those mini monster truck (flame suit on)...that's my honest answer

yea yea i know what cayene did revenu wise, but im talking about actual car, i think its pretty useless.
i think that about most SUVs, because most of these things, like PL said, dont get to see any dirt road, dont haul anything but little 3yr old kids, and get used daily by one person.

SUVs are a fad... one that's hard to shake! Let gas prices keep climbing, and people will pull their heads out of their butts and realize they CAN get by on a smaller, more efficient car.

You should see my thread about alternative vehicle power.

When the Boxster is paid off, I'm going to be looking for, or waiting for, a vehicle like the Chevrolet Volt. But I hope Toyota or Honda come up with something more appealing using the same type of drivetrain.

Actually Wiedeking is the one pulling the strings and soon will probaly be running VW. The simple fact is that Porsche is a car company and has more loyalty to making money then any legacy of racing, just read their annual report. Because of that dedication their stock continues to do quite well and they are spending the money well, a large part of their profit last year actually came from those investments versus car production. So in the end the best Porsche investment is in their stock not in a car.

Take care

Whew..I also thank God that the SUV fad are over..
The main reason I gave it up is the gas price & it's getting expensive to maintain plus..I need to save up for a house..that's why for the past 5 years before I got the house, Ive been driving a Mercury Villager

From a business point of view this smaller SUV could be a good idea. The smaller to medium sized stylish SUV's are usually driven by soccer moms and mid level executives who need room for kids and or clients.

My boxster was in the shop last year July 4th weekend and Champion Porsche gave me a Cayenne for the weekend. I have to admit that it is a pretty incredible vehicle. I won't trade in my Boxster for a Cayenne but it is a good product for Porsche to expand its clientelle. The people who should really be ticked about this are the people who paid up for Cayennes. Higher prices and a weak economy do not bode well for large SUV's and a lower priced more fuel efficient small SUV will further deteriorate Cayenne values. Maybe, I will get a great deal on a base model Cayenne as I got a great deal on my Boxster last year.

My only real complaint about this light SUV is the name. Rockster sounds too similar to Boxster. Let's hope that the suits at Porsche can smoke a bowl and be a little more creative with a cool name for the new SUV.

I've never quite understood why what other people drive bothers so many. I have the boxster and an SUV and drive the box as much as possible. Here is a take from my point of view.

First, my SUV gets better mileage than my Box, so that's not an issue.

Second, most people want a vehicle with some room. Go back a couple of decades and it was large family stationwagons or the typical 'boats' most domestics produced. The SUV's were just the long awaited answer. SUV's typically have better perceived comfort than a midsize car.

My wife loves the small size of the Box, but in the winter she just always feels safer in an SUV than any car. I think that is typical.

Lastly anyone who owns a house would love to have a full size pickup at their disposal. Just so many projects that practicaly require it. A full size pickup with extra cab and 4x4 is around double the price of the unibody suv's, chew way more fuel and are hard to park / manouever for many. The SUV is a reasonable compromise for this reason.

Just my .02
