Radio removal - question

I just bought the radio removal tool. How do I use it? Do I insert the tool all the way in or half way in or what?? I don't want to break anything, so I am asking. It seems like I have to use a lot of brute force to yank it out.

i believe security clips are on lower part of the radio and they seem to be spring loaded. instead of using the tool, i took the assembly out and used screw driver from the back. if you have the tool, i would think you insert them through top portion of the radio on each side all the way in, lower them to push the security clips in then pull the radio out by pulling the radio face plate. i don't think you have to worry too much about breaking anything though.

Which radio is it. The CDR23 sometimes requires quite some force to pull it out.

The CDR/CR-220 also takes a lot of pull to get out.

Your tool should say "Top Left/Top Right" Just make sure you put those in the correct spots and pull away.

It is for CDR 220...sounds like i have to use a lot of force to pull it out. I'll give it a try. Thanks for all the response.

You will know when the tools are property inserted. They will CLICK in and not come out until the readio is removed.

Once the tool clicks in you have to push the tools away from each other and then pull the radio out. It will require some strengh.

Agree with previous poster -- there will be a click.

I didn't do this but have seen it done -- you can put a tapered screw driver through the finger holes in the tools to give you more leverage pulling it out.

Once out, you have to press on the side of the radio to release the tools.

I had trouble putting the radio back in - wires in the way. I believe you can remove the cup holders above (at least they were above the radio in my Box) to help with the reinstall.
