Exclamation Clutch not going full distance

2000 2.7 L with 110K miles.

Yesterday, I noticed problems with getting into all the gears while driving. The Clutch felt normal, but didn't feel like it traveled the same distance. I finally got it home again, with problems getting it into gear.

Today, Car will not start. I push clutch pedal to the floor (or at least as far as it will go) and nothing. I did notice that the switch sound that use to be there is no longer present. I got up in the foot well and I only saw 1 switch that was at the top end of the clutch pedal (not depressed).
Brake/clutch fluid resivoir is filled, clutch is stiiff, gear shift feels normal shifiting to all gears while engine is off.

Any thoughts?

if switch was not depressed, then it won't start. It's a safety feature to make sure you don't cuase and accident or hit something by starting the car in gear.

You can try and hit it w/ some lubricant to get it to compress.

If that doesn't work, just zip tie it into the compressed position until you can R&R.

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION: If you zip tie it down - the car will start even if the clutch pedal is not depressed. So be careful!

Also sounds like your clutch is going out - probably doesn't have anything to do with the starting problem. That does sound like the switch.

Verified switch

I taped up the switch....starts up with no problems.

I did notice however that the clutch does not travel all the way it use to and therefore does not contact the switch.

What would be the cause of the clutch not traveling the distance it used to?

thanks!!!

Are you still having problems getting into some gears? Does the clutch action seem different beyond that it doesn't seem to travel as far?

After taping the switch the engine starts with no problem.

However after depressing the clutch I can not get the shifter into any gear.

The clutch feels like it doesn't go the full distance it use to and therefore if the pressure plate does not separate from the flywheel I won't be able to put it into gear (at least not without jamming it in there!).

I checked the linkage for the shifter and it appears to function normally.

I looked at the master and slave clutch cylinders and it doesn't appear to be leaking.

Is there something else to check? What would be the next step troublehooting?

Thanks again!

If you have flushed the brake fluid in the last 2 years, try bleeding the clutch (at the slave cylinder). However, I suspect it's time for a clutch job.

I'd suspect the clutch is in need of replacing... the throwout bearing might not be moving the pressure plate enough to disengage, thus the pedal won't travel... Something is jacked up in there.

The parts don't cost that much... but the labor does!

Do it yourself, it's easier than a 924, 924S, or 944!
