if switch was not depressed, then it won't start. It's a safety feature to make sure you don't cuase and accident or hit something by starting the car in gear.

You can try and hit it w/ some lubricant to get it to compress.

If that doesn't work, just zip tie it into the compressed position until you can R&R.

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION: If you zip tie it down - the car will start even if the clutch pedal is not depressed. So be careful!
