Or here if that did not come through.

Sweet! Thanks. I think the thing looks pretty nice. Kinda breaks up the lines though huh? Hmmm...

Grizzly 04-25-2007 03:12 PM

Here's how it looks in the down position. I like it. It's something different without being outrageous.

I really like the look, almost like the 03'+ 986 rear spoiler when it's raised. It kinda look funny when it's in the down position though,it's not very flush, looks like it isn't fully lowered or something with the gaps.

blinkwatt 04-25-2007 03:20 PM

Grizzly, can you take some pics of your spoiler in the down position? It looks really good from that pic that you just posted.

conradtan 04-25-2007 03:30 PM

Grizzly,

Is yours the same as the one posted on eBay? If so, was it difficult to install? Also how was the paint job they did? Close match? Looks great.

98Boxster98 04-25-2007 03:35 PM

You may want to exercise some caution on where you purchase the spoiler:

http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9891&page=3&pp=20

RandallNeighbour 04-25-2007 03:50 PM

I'd be careful about replacing the spoiler with something that doesn't block as much air as the solid one you have now. After all, the factory spoiler is engineered in such a way as to keep the back end on the ground at high speeds and with something flimsy on there as pictured, you may find yourself losing control of your car at very high speeds... which is the worst time to be losing control.

Safety first. Aesthetics second I say.

conradtan 04-25-2007 03:51 PM

Yikes!!! Ok no spoiler... damm it! Every time I want to get something that seems cool, it's more trouble than it's worth! Hehe... :)

Grizzly 04-25-2007 04:07 PM

Hey! Wait a minute! I just braved the impending darkness of night to take these pictures! Now, somebody's getting a spoiler, damnit!!!

O.K., O.K., I'm O.K., now. I didn't get mine from ebay. I got it from one of the big catalog places. I think it was Automotion, but I'm not certain. It's a RUF. A couple of guys have purchased them from ebay and had problems with cracking. I haven't had any trouble with mine.

As far as the down-force issue goes, I can't say one way or the other. If, possibly, hypothetically, I'd been to the far side of 130, it would probably have felt pretty stable to me. Of course, that's only hypothetically speaking...and that would have been in a hypothetical straight line on a hypothetical level highway on a hypothetically windless night.

Hey! Check out the pollen on that shot across the deck lid. The car was washed last night. It's green already. Do you guys get pollen like that in your areas of the Country?

CJ_Boxster 04-25-2007 04:25 PM

What i get is green dust also but its not pollen, its Sulferic dust from the 5 storey tall mounds of it in the refineries along Ocean BLvd leading into Long Beach.

Grizzly 04-25-2007 05:18 PM

Isn't that really abrasive? I'd imagine that plays hell on your dark paint.

conradtan 04-26-2007 09:57 AM

@Grizzly: Hey the pics look really good. Still on the fence about getting them hehe...

conrad, everytime you ask someone in this forum to get out of their couch and take pix..you are in big trouble....hehehehehehe! j/k :D

I remember when I ask Nick or Grizz (not sure w/c one of the 2) to go out of his garage and take picture of his muscle car collection, the wife thought he was seeing someone in the garage..hehehehe!

I dont know, i never tested its abrasiveness on the body, i just rinsed it off asap

986speedster 04-26-2007 11:08 AM

check out the new sport package on the '07 boxsters. I believe they have gone to that type of spoiler now!!

Grizzly 04-26-2007 11:11 AM

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

conradtan 04-26-2007 02:18 PM

Man.... the spoiler looks really really good... Damm! Damm! What to do? Haha! I have so many things I want to buy:

1. Strut tower braces front & back ($450 ~ $500)
2. A small $150 JVC 6" powered subwoofer box for under the seat (its really cool for the price)
3. This damm spoiler $??

To name a few...

Grizzly 04-26-2007 02:42 PM

It's a sickness, dude. Most of us have it and there's apparently no cure.

Topless 04-26-2007 03:33 PM

I must admit I like the look. I just want to know that it has been tested and approved for my car before I start horsing around with my aerodynamics. I trust RUF to do it right. "Jimmy's Wings N Things ebay store"... not so much.

I guess I just don't want to be this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn4hg5kD66g

One more pass in the wind tunnel might have been worthwhile don't you think?

conradtan 04-26-2007 03:48 PM

Sorry Jim99' but my weakness for cheap things that look cool is getting the best of me!! I think I'll get this afterall, Hehe... I'll let ya'll know if it flies off next time I'm pushing 100. Probably next paycheck! :D

When you get it let us know what you think. Ultimately that is what this board is best for... put out an idea, let others weigh in, make your decision after washing it through here. Surely we won't always be in agreement. What is the point of discussion if we are just kissing each others hindsides? For now I'll save my paycheck for tires.

Who is Jim99??

conradtan 04-26-2007 10:50 PM

Jim99' is MNBoxster's signature. Hehe...

conradtan 04-27-2007 10:41 AM

Reply from the EBay guy...

This is what I asked him.

Have you had any issues about cracking or coming apart at the base where the wing mounts to the two arms? This was brought up in my porsche forum and I was warned not to buy this, but the price is right so I thought I'd ask. Also does it come with instructions? And do you have the color lapis blue that my 2001 boxster comes in?

Here's his reply. Sounds too good to be true eh? $275 for a painted/supposedly non-problematic spoiler. Hmmm...

No more problems, we had this issue corrected 3 Months ago, Install Kit comes with Easy instructions, and special allen Wrench.

I do have Lapis Blue Available.

I also just had the Same Wing done in real CARBON FIBER, see my other ads. Boxster Wing Carbon Fiber

If it's any consolation, I've dealt with Omar on some other parts. His parts are good and his paint work is excellent. If he says he solved the problem, he probably has.

986 Girl 04-27-2007 11:25 AM

I wouldn't worry about the aerodynamics.

If it's good enough for the Caymen S, it's good enough for me:

http://static.blogo.it/autoblog/pors...ff_spoiler.jpg

conradtan 04-27-2007 12:44 PM

I'm doin it!

I'm ordering it right now!!!

RandallNeighbour 04-27-2007 12:57 PM

The Cayman has aaerodynamics going on with its roof line and rear end mini-ducktail as seen with the spoiler up.

Comparing a boxster to a Cayman aerodynamically is not an apples to apples comparison just because the platforms are similar and one is a hardtop and the other a convertible.

unklekraker 04-27-2007 12:58 PM

go for it, dude! you have our blessings...hehehehehehe!

are you at work, bro?

conradtan 04-27-2007 01:14 PM

@kraken

ya i'm at work. Hey did you see my other post? Also, how do find out exactly what my color is so i can order the spoiler? Is it lapis, or midnight or ocean blue? its an 01' box.

unklekraker 04-27-2007 01:24 PM

dude, not sure where to look for but i think it's in the front trunk, underneath the carpet or trunk...there should be a paint code

I realize that. I'm just saying that for average street driving they can be considered similar (note, not the same, but similar) air flow wise. It's not going to throw off the balance of the entire car to the point where it's unsafe or hard to drive as it might swapping in a...oh, I don't know, STI wing. Granted, that's still far fetched, but you get what I'm saying.

conradtan 04-28-2007 11:21 PM

Well aerodynamics - shmareodynamics... I think it looks cool as heck! Hehe... Thanks for the input though. I just hope it doesn't fall off! Ordered it today, I'll post pics after it's in and up and let ya'll know if it stays on! :D

jhandy 04-29-2007 01:41 PM
