Are 1998 Bosters Unique?
Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a a 1998 Boxster. Today, I heard from the dealer that all 1998 boxster will be consider a very unique year for all bosters. He claims that in 1998 some machine broke in the factory to produce 98 boxsters. So there's only a limited quantity of 98 boxsters produced. Is that true?

Hmmmm . . . .
I do not know about how rare a 1998 Boxster is, but my salesman told me that Arctic Silver is one of the most rare Boxster colors of them all
Regardless, welcome to the forum and enjoy your new car!!

I can't believe that Arctic Silver is the most rare. Isn't silver the "new" white? I noticed that we just got 3 new members with Arctic Silver and red interiors - and I thought I was fairly unique! But you've got to LOVE that red interior. It took me awhile but I just can't dream of having my Box without that interior. Absolutely love the look with the top down!

Hi,
Nope. According to Porsche's Annual Report, 18,887 1998 Boxsters were produced. There are 3 yrs. ('96 '97, '03) where fewer cars were produced - 82, 15,903, and 18,788 respectively...

So there are "approximately" what... 97'~07' ten years, avg 25K cars built per year, so 250 thousand boxsters cruising around? That explains why I see literally, 4 boxsters a day where I live. (San Jose) Thats cool!

Hi,
I think that avg. is high - 20-22k/yr. seems like a better number to me...

Hi,
It's Porsche's Annual Report and you can find it online. The one attached is Porsche's '04 Annual Report.
Porsche does not distinguish between Base, 'S', nor between Boxster/Cayman Base or 'S' since these are Boxster variants, or between Manual/Tiptronic S. It's an Annual Report, so simplfication is the goal and they only list total Boxster Production.
But, for Boxsters alone, Base and 'S' are 50/50 since '00, Manual/Tiptronic S are 50/50 since '97. For this reason, there are 56,934 more Boxster Base Models ('96, '97, '98, '99) than there are 'S' models. Hope this helps...

The breakdown would be neat, but still interesting numbers to look at. Thanks Jim!
