serious money for serious safety equipment. That's exactly what a seat is, not just somewhere to put your tail. It protects you in the event of side impact and keeps you from being ejected from the cockcpit in a frontal impact.

Your stock seat is crash tested, most of those replicas of real race seats are not crash tested at all. I figure the goverment is lax about imposing safety requirements because they figure most will be used on the track where there aren't 4 ton SUV's crashing into drivers. Sad to say but its safer on the track than your nearest highway.

I'm sure if you tore apart that replica GT3 seat and disassembled a factory GT3 seat you would see some big differences in the construction,materials used, reinforcements, etc. If Porsche puts their stamp of approval on a seat they know is going to be used at high speeds at a track I'm sure they are confident of its safety. If you look at the number of 911 GT3's that are totaled in a given year (high) its clear driver safety is something that is important to Porsche.
