helmholtz resonator
According to Paul Frere's book, "Porsche Boxster Story" the entire development history, on page 52, he shows a diagram of the intake system. #4 on the diagram is referred to as a silencer. In the text he states that , " just before the throttle valve there is a Helmholtz resonator to produce a pleasant, 'sporty' intake sound. this is a great little book and I recommend it to all interested. I have seen it advertised on ebay and some of the advertisers carry it. Whatever the case, since there is a resonator valve within the intake manifold that helps in low end torque I am not sure how the removal of this silencer would help or hinder. It may matter not one whit so I imagine you could remove it, cap it off and run the car and see what happens. Report back your findings please.
