The '97 engines bled air from a tube on the oil pump housing. The hose on top of the oil cooler replaced that on later models. This thread discusses how to deal with that: http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/82884-97-motor-98-car-oil-pump-plug.html
I think the best solution is the plug that trygve found. Part #99610711900
