I also use the Esco stands, they are very heavy duty, and I never felt unsafe using them. If I'm going to be crawling around under 2 tons of metal I don't want the car resting precariously on V-shaped stands, only making contact at the edges. If the Esco's are too expensive I would at least look for a stand with a flat top.
