Mine is a 2001 build date but it is fitted with the double row bearing. That probably means that the engine was assembled sometime in 2000 before being shipped to Finland and co-joined to the chassis.
Never assuming anything with a 2001 car, take it apart and look. I personally own two 2001 models with M96 engines, both purchased new, so I know their entire history. One is a very early production date car (was actually ordered as a 2000 model, but was switched to a 2001 while on order), the other is one of the very last 2001's built; the early car is a single row, the late car is a dual row, exactly backwards from popular thinking on what should be in there.
