That said, to answer the OP the combined price of the faultless tool and bearing should lead you quickly to the conclusion that the plain bearing IMS "solution" is where your money should go. I'd much rather have the money inside my car than on my work bench gathering dust.
I've spent about a quarter of my career in tool design and from a glance it would appear that the new tool assures alignment of the bearing so it doesn't get jacked up when pushing it in. If the bearing is misaligned on install it is junk and you need to pull it and get a new one.

I did not say that you cannot purchase one, what I said is that you will not find a DIY explanation of how to use the tool, and specifically to install the IMS Pro version. Both Jake and Charles have openly stated that they no longer provide information or support for any DIY IMS installations. Jake has even gone as far as to remove all information concerning IMS removal and installations from his website.
