Sounds like the set screw on the linkage possibly popped out of place. It is located on the passenger side in the rear behind the triangular looking aluminum heat shield. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/37-TRANS-Drop/images_large/Pic3.jpg The set screw is the only part in the diagram with out an arrow.
